Text Chapter 408 How to fight

Previous page        Return to Catalog        Next page

November is not a good season in the Mongolian grasslands. The withered grass blades are covered with scattered ice slag.

¡°I don¡¯t know whether it was the cold weather or because Da Gong was too excited. Xu Shuzheng, who was holding a telescope, had a red cheek. The soldiers wearing cotton coats and ear protection leather hats were busy next to him.  Two years after the end of the Sino-Japanese War, the National Defense Forces added a lot of new equipment. The biggest change was the introduction of 60mm light mortars.  This mortar is smaller and lighter than the 80- and 120-caliber mortars originally used, and has gradually replaced the grenade launchers equipped by the cavalry of mixed divisions.  As for the infantry division, it is not equipped yet. Firstly, the infantry division already has a large number of grenade launchers. It would be too costly to completely replace them. Secondly, the infantry does not need to pursue too strong mobility. Trucks and pack horses can help carry heavy equipment.

A cavalry regiment with three battalions, six 70mm cavalry field guns, 48 ??60mm mortars and dozens of light and heavy machine guns surrounded the city of Kulun from three sides: east, west, north and west.  In order to seize this great credit, Xu Shuzheng not only went to An Guoliang personally but also sent a telegram to Shi Xiaolou asking to be the vanguard. Finally, in order to achieve suddenness, he detoured hundreds of kilometers overnight and blocked the road from three sides in one fell swoop. As for the south side, it was deliberately left vacant.  A whole division is moving north rapidly, and only a fool is willing to break out that way.

It only took less than ten minutes for the scattered Mongolian rebels outside the city to be driven back into the city. Xu Shuzheng never took the little Cullen in his eyes.  "This is just a stepping stone to establish your merits!" He snorted coldly and put down the telescope to check the preparations.

Facing the National Defense Forces strutting around setting up artillery and machine guns outside the city, the Mongolian soldiers on the earthen wall didn't even have the courage to fire.  What Kenji Doihara said is true. The descendants of Genghis Khan were enslaved by the Qing Dynasty for hundreds of years and have long since lost their blood to travel across Europe and Asia. The thousands of private armies assembled by these Khans and nobles are good at bullying herdsmen and extorting businessmen.  But when it comes to fighting, it is definitely an amateur.  Not running away immediately was considered an effort to maintain the dignity of a prairie man.

    "Fire!"

With a loud shout, a whirlwind seemed to blow on the low Kulun earth wall.  The rammed earth city wall, which is only a few miles in circumference, cannot even compare with the county seat within the pass. How can it deal with such strong firepower?  What's more, the most powerful Babu Zabu rebels are still circling in the Siberian region of Russia, so in just one pack of cigarettes, large parts of the city wall began to collapse, and the rammed earth buildings were shattered.  The cannonballs filled with yellow guns were particularly fierce, and those Mongolian soldiers who might have had the upper hand in hand-to-hand combat instantly ran as fast as they could to the temples in the city.  This scene made the officers who originally wanted to fight a fierce battle to scare the traitorous separatists were dumbfounded. This is what they have been clamoring for since the year of 1911.  Mongolia finally seeks autonomy?

    "Come in."

Almost without hesitation, the three battalion commanders decided not to waste artillery shells. Hundreds of National Defense Force cavalry swarmed in along the gap opened. Although there were many Mongolian soldiers who resisted, these resistances were simply overwhelming in the face of the powerful firepower.  They couldn't afford much waves, so they quickly occupied important areas including the Bogd Khan Palace.

"Stop, stop! You barbarians" The loyal Bogdo Khan Palace guard finally decided not to resist after having a black gun pressed to his head, but when he saw several soldiers preparing to attack  When Li rushed, he still couldn't help shouting, but this kind of shouting was pale and feeble.  Soon the cavalry brought out the lama leaders hiding in the basement.

In the past, Zhebu, who was above tens of millions of people (he was notified that this person could not write his name, so he was abbreviated) had lost his dignity. He looked at the wolf-like soldiers around him with trembling bodies and small eyes full of fear. Hang beside him  The Khan kings of Dadolji were even pale and sweat was dripping from their foreheads.

The crisp sound of horse hooves made them all turn their heads to look. Xu Shuzheng, who was dressed in military uniform, was holding a short riding whip, and his cheeks were even redder.  OK, great!  Finally the raid was not in vain, the big fish are all here!  He was shouting in his heart but his face was calm. He jumped off his horse and slowly walked to Zhebu and saluted with his hands clasped together.

"Xu Shuzheng has met the master."

Since the Northwest Army stationed in Baotou, Zhebu has spent a lot of time inquiring about news from the army.  So I have heard about this wise and resourceful staff colonel, and also know that he is an officer under the name of the former Beiyang Duan Qirui, but what is the use of knowing it?  On the other hand, King Hangda Khan next to him shouted anxiously: "General Xu, please don't get me wrong, we have canceled our autonomy."

"Oh?" Xu Shuzheng was deliberately surprised and asked the officer next to him: "Does our Republic of China have autonomous provinces?" The officer was a clever guy, so he couldn't understand the meaning of the words.  He scratched his head and said seriously: "Report to the colonel. No."

"How can we abolish autonomy when there is no autonomy? The prince really knows how to joke." Xu Shuzheng's cold eyes sent shivers down the spine of Prince Hangda, who was granted the title of Manchu Qing Dynasty. His face turned blue and white, but the Chechen Khan still had some courage.  He shouted: "Kill if you want and stop talking nonsense. The prairie eagle will not bow to you Han people."

Xu Shuzheng had no intention of wasting words on these chopping boards, so he waved his hand and said: "FengThe President and Commander-in-Chief ordered that due to the need to support the Russian allies, Cullen was temporarily under military control. No one was allowed to leave without an order. Anyone who disobeyed the order would be shot!  "Just one sentence made Zhebu, Prince Hangda and others look ashen. How could they resist when they couldn't even leave?

In a yurt in the distance where the flag of the Republic of China was quickly hung up, Kenji Doihara, who had hid earlier, looked at Xu Shuzheng, Zhebu, Hangda and others thoughtfully.  Next to him, Hitomi Aoki's pistol was already loaded. Seeing that he was preparing for the worst, he was suddenly pressed down by the former: "Aoki-kun, I want to trouble you to go to Chita."

"Chita?" Aoki Hitomi was puzzled. Although he knew that the largest rebel army in Mongolia was operating under the protection of the Russian army in Chita, what would happen if that ragtag group of only three to four thousand people came back?  You must know that this is a cavalry regiment with stronger firepower and combat effectiveness than during the Sino-Japanese War, and it will increase to a division or even more in two days at most!  What's more, that Chinese officer was very smart and deliberately implemented military control in the name of supporting Russia and put all the top Mongolian officials under house arrest. Even Russia couldn't do anything about it. If the war dragged on for a few more years, there would be enough time to divide the various Mongolian ministries.

Kenji Doihara knew that he had doubts, and motioned him to sit down and poured butter tea for him before slowly squinting his eyes, a ruthless light flashing faintly: "Aoki-kun, maybe you were waiting  The opportunity has come." In Aoki Hitomi's doubtful eyes, he pointed at Zhebu and others who were guarded by the soldiers through the slit, and sneered: "What will happen if they die during military control  Sample?!"

Hitomi Aoki was stunned at first, and then his face suddenly jumped with joy. Without saying a word, he bent down, opened the curtain, and took advantage of the chaos to escape from the city.  After he left, Doihara Kenji also closed his eyes and murmured vaguely: "How are you going to deal with a rioting grassland?"

Xu Shuzheng didn't know that a big trouble was beginning to loom from the horizon. His mind was completely filled with the great achievement of "recovering Kulun".  Fortunately, he did not forget his responsibilities. First, he transported all the gold, silver and jewelry back to Nanjing from the Bogdohan Palace in the name of protection. Then he gathered all the Mongolian private troops to build barracks and necessary facilities. Finally, he sent soldiers to take those who escaped.  The nobles and princes who had no escape sent letters to various places to order the private armies to put down their weapons. They also purchased grain, fur and horses, and prepared to build Kulon into the largest military base on the Sino-Russian border.

With the arrival of the main force of the 121st Division two days later, the 122nd Division also set off from Baotou to prepare to station in Kulun and set out from here to support Russia.

Yang Qiu, who returned to Wuchang to wait for the birth of his first child, soon received a report that the troops were stationed in Kulun, but he did not attach much importance to Xu Shuzheng's great contribution. To the central government of the Republic of China, Mongolia was just a scabies disease. If it were not for the concerns about Russia and  Britain and France had already taken action against Cullen.

"Vice President, Principal Jiang is here." Kuang Xukun interrupted Yang Qiu who was reading the report.

After Cai Gongshi returned to China after completing the "Plum Blossom Agreement" negotiations, he served as Secretary-General of the Reform and Development Commission, replacing Yang Qiu in handling the daily affairs of the Commission. Therefore, during his subsequent visits to the United States and China, Gu Weijun and Lu Bicheng could only serve as temporary secretaries, but the former was after all the backbone of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.  , and the latter had to handle his investments, so he selected this 26-year-old student who studied in the United States in the Gengzi Year to be the fifth secretary.

Thinking about Chen Guofu, the current party secretary, Cai Gongshi, the secretary-general of the committee, Murong Han, the backbone of the National Youth Association and the governor of Henan Province, and Dong Yongwei, who studied in the United States but has not returned, you can know how hot this secretary position is, so even Jiang Fangzhen  They all took another look at Kuang Xukun, secretly wondering what this young man was capable of.

"Don't read it." Yang Qiu put down the telegram and made him a cup of instant coffee and said with a smile: "Bohe (Kuang Xukun) studied journalism at Columbia University. He has good planning and organizational skills, and is also very experienced in word processing.  ." After telling the reason for the selection, he deliberately glanced at the absent-minded Jiang Fangzhen and asked: "Is it about Mongolia?"

"Vice President, you guessed wrong this time." Jiang Fangzhen still had the same temper and put his hat next to him, picked up his coffee and leaned on the sofa before saying slowly: "I'm here to study."

"Studying?" Yang Qiu smiled: "My President Jiang University, are you so worried that you have nothing to do after Ziqing removed all the officers and students?"

Jiang Fangzhen was a little angry about Song Ziqing's massive deployment of officers and cadets to replenish the reserves, but he was not to the point of complaining. He stared into Yang Qiu's eyes and said, "You can't tell me that there is an entire group army without thinking about how to fight.  ?¡±

"So that's why." Yang Qiu secretly smiled. Looking at him, he knew that he was probably as unsure as everyone else. After all, they were vaguely aware of the cruelty of the Western Front and the scale of the war, but they left just as they wanted to talk.  Kuang Xukun hurriedly turned back and rushed into the small living room, shouting anxiously: "Vice President, the Second Madam sent someone to say that Madam is going to give birth."

Jiang Fangzhen has not yet recovered from the unfamiliar word "Second Lady"When he came over, Yang Qiu had already rushed out quickly. Seeing that the worry in his heart could not be relieved for the time being, he had no choice but to grab his hat and chase after him.  (To be continued)
