The defensive battle on Uletau Mountain has been going on for a whole day. The Golan Trench and the eastern slope of the mountain appeared for the first time in front of the world. The bodies of soldiers from both sides and broken weapons and equipment were everywhere. Hundreds of trucks and tanks were destroyed.  Exploded into pieces, the dense shells from both sides even scraped off a layer of the ground.  In order to capture the most important barrier north of Kyzylorda, both sides used strange tricks to strangle each other.  However, facing the rock-solid and difficult defense line of the Second Army of the Wehrmacht, after a seven-hour battle, the Soviet army once again had to temporarily retreat after paying the price of more than 50,000 casualties and the destruction of hundreds of trucks and tanks.  Similarly, the Second Army itself suffered the price of an entire division's casualties after being broken through the trenches by Soviet infantry, and nearly half of its anti-tank guns were destroyed.

But the temporary cessation of artillery fire does not mean the end of the fierce battle.  The Air Force still launched an uninterrupted attack on Zhukov's headquarters. From morning to evening, both sides invested a total of more than 1,900 fighter planes. Under the joint attack of Zhukov's air and ground forces, the Chinese Air Force was shot down at the cost of 67 aircraft, the largest loss in a single day since the war began.  Destroyed 493 Soviet fighter planes and seized air supremacy on the battlefield in one fell swoop.  After completing the task of seizing air supremacy, the heroic pilots also joined forces to destroy at least 70 tanks/armored vehicles, more than 400 artillery positions and a large number of Soviet troops.

During the strangulation in the air, the commanders of both sides involuntarily turned their attention to the north.  At 3 pm on May 3, fourteen BA27M armored vehicles carrying a small group of Soviet infantry and a dozen Cossack cavalry quietly entered Kurgason.  The Soviet army, which had regarded China as its number one target since the end of the civil war, borrowed a large number of Wehrmacht formations and tactics from the Wehrmacht. For example, this reconnaissance team adopted the Wehrmacht's standard armor formation, with four vehicles per platoon and three platoons.  For a company, the company commander and deputy company commander each have a separate vehicle to avoid being killed at the same time and disrupting the command.

After the reconnaissance vehicle stopped outside the town, the scouts and cavalry immediately began to search the entire town.  Kurgason has a population of less than a thousand.  After the war broke out, all the Kazakh residents here fled to Karaganda and other places.  Therefore, the abandoned town is full of items discarded during the escape, and several bomb craters can be seen, indicating that bombers have visited here.  "Comrade Company Commander, there is no one here, and there are no traces of vehicles passing by. Only some horse hoof prints were found on the south side." A squad leader walked out of the farmhouse angrily with an empty wine bottle and threw it aside.

"Take your platoon and search both flanks along the river. Rick, go unload the boat. The cavalry is ready to cross the river and search."

The squad leader nodded and led four vehicles north along the river. At the same time, the reconnaissance company commander sent four armored vehicles south. Finally, he ordered the two assault boats on the truck behind to be unloaded and moved them one at a time.  The cavalry sent them across the river.  The platoon leader led the team and drove ten kilometers along the river, but found no car marks, and the vegetation was well intact with no traces of crushing.  "Squad leader, do you want to move on?" The burping driver poked his head out of the ba27m armored vehicle, holding a small half bottle of Chinese liquor plundered on the road.  "No need. The river ahead is faster than here and it is not suitable for crossing. There is no way to hide anything in the low bushes. Let's go. It seems that the enemy should still be on the south bank." The squad leader looked at the large knee-high area five kilometers ahead.  bush.  Shaking his head, he grabbed the bottle and got into the armored vehicle.  The four BA27Ms turned around and drove back, but the squad leader didn't know that they were deep in the low bushes that he thought he could see through at a glance.  The large footprints of horseshoes are clearly visible.

It turns out that Zhuo Fan deliberately arranged the crossing point in a low shrub area 15 kilometers away from Kurgason in order to use Kurgason to set up an ambush.  This way the surface of Kurgarthan will not be damaged.  Finally, he asked the Kazakh cavalry division to repeatedly trample and bury the traces of vehicles, and inserted crushed shrubs directly into the soil to pretend that they were intact.  But if the scouts get closer, they can still see the clues.  It's a pity that the squad leader gave up because he felt that the open and low bushes could not hide the enemy at all, so there was no need to search. As for the forest to the north, it was the defense line of the Alkarek garrison.

Soon after the armored reconnaissance platoon returned to the town, the cavalry across the river also sent back news that there was no human habitation within 10 kilometers of the other side.  This was great news. The company commander quickly opened the radio carefully wrapped in oilcloth.  In the Soviet Union, radios were far more precious than tanks. Whenever the troops captured a downed Chinese plane, they would be extremely jealous when they saw the smashed radio equipment inside.  And the one in front of him was one of the 50,000 units urgently purchased from the United States after the war.

The communications troops quickly contacted the main force behind them. When the company commander secretly praised the usefulness of American radio stations, he did not know that with the exposure of the Katyn Massacre, the United States had completely stopped exporting to the Soviet Union.  Of course, since the United States has not yet declared its participation in the war, this ban cannot prevent smuggling. A considerable number of American companies are actually still selling materials and industrial equipment to the Soviet Union, including important aluminum and oil refining equipment, and even Spain is involved.  Tungsten (Soviet tungsten mines are all in Eastern Siberia. Historically, the resources in the entire Siberia during World War II exceptExcept for a few such as the Musk copper mine and the Amur region iron ore, there are basically no records of mining. The Soviet Union relied on the smuggling of raw materials from Ukraine, the Caucasus and the Urals.

"No enemies?" Major General Baranov, commander of the Fifth Tank Army, was surprised when he received the telegram. This general, who was unusually tall and thin and spoke in a soft voice, had gone from the grassroots to the Frunze Military Academy step by step.  They came up, so combat commanders are more stable than those officers who came up through the purge.  As two meritorious tank commanders who participated in the Soviet-Finnish War, he did not believe that the other side would give up such an important position.

Sitting next to him, the political commissar wearing glasses was also puzzled. He smoked a cigarette and said, "Is it possible that they didn't notice us?"

Baranov shook his head: "Comrade Political Commissar, this is impossible. We have encountered three waves of reconnaissance planes since noon, and they must have sent the message back."

"But it has only been three hours from noon to now. It will take at least five to six hours for their tank divisions to come over. And Comrade Zhukov is putting pressure on them. This morning's telegram also said that more than one and a half armored divisions are in Ukraine.  Mount Letau still shows no sign of leaving.¡±

"But they still have cavalry. Comrade political commissar, don't forget that the Kazakhs have rebelled and they have organized ten cavalry divisions. The Chinese will not mind using them as shields to slow us down."

"What should we do? We can't just wait, right? Commander Zhukov is under a lot of pressure!" The political commissar was a little anxious, especially after learning that three divisions and hundreds of tanks were lost in one night, he was even more restless.  Fortunately, he was more enlightened than others and knew that he had to obey Baranov's deployment in the military.

Baranov couldn't accurately judge. Logically speaking, there should be enemies blocking the attack, but now he didn't see anything, which made him nervous.  However, he also knew that the troops could not just stare across the river. We must know that Uletau Mountain has reached a critical moment and the outflank must be completed as soon as possible.  With this idea in mind, he decided to send another cavalry battalion to cross the river in an assault boat and go 30 kilometers deep to investigate before making a decision.  However, in order to save time, he ordered the dispersed troops to gradually concentrate on Kurgason.

This caution made Zhuo Fan in the woods very anxious. As time passed by, if the Soviet army chose to cross the river at night, they would probably fall into a chaotic battle.  Night fighting is not a problem for the Wehrmacht, but it becomes very complicated after joining the Polish army, and the possibility of large-scale accidental damage cannot be ruled out.  Moreover, air force support is limited at night. If the pontoon bridge is blown up, it will be a big sin for the Soviet troops to cross the river.

Just as the two sides were holding back their strength and secretly wrestling, the first batch of 12 Snake ground attack aircraft came to support and changed the stalemate.

The first batch of 12 Shenshe B came from the nearest Rezikazgan field airport. The pilots were very tired after a day of fighting on Ultau Mountain, so after seeing the Fifth Tank Army, they couldn't help but feel a series of  Rockets, everyone wanted to throw away the bombs early and go home to rest.  "Fire, fire! Shoot them down." After the Soviet army failed in East Kazakhstan, they also imitated the Wehrmacht and moved their anti-aircraft guns onto trucks. However, the Soviet army's main 37mm anti-aircraft guns were inherited from old German models and their air defense capabilities were not strong.  The 12 Snakes quickly dispersed Baranov's troops, and the 25mm machine gun destroyed five BT5 tanks in a row.

But the appearance of the Snake attack plane not only did not make Baranov nervous, but made him feel that the other party used planes to block him because the army was still behind.  At this time, the reconnaissance battalion crossing the river also sent back a telegram: "There are no enemies within 30 kilometers of the south bank of the Karaturgai River."

"Great! It will get dark in two hours. As long as the pontoon bridge is set up within two hours, their planes will be useless." After reading the telegram, the political commissar excitedly picked up his pistol: "Baranov  Comrade, you lead the main force, and I will go to the front to supervise the erection of the pontoon bridge." "Okay, comrade political commissar, we must erect the pontoon bridge as soon as possible." Baranov took the political commissar's hand, emphasized the importance of erecting the pontoon bridge, and ordered  The troops turned south and gathered around Kurgarson.

When Baranov was dreaming about crossing the river at night and arriving at the west side of Uletau Mountain tomorrow morning to complete the pincer attack, he did not know that his troops had already revealed a huge arc-shaped back due to turning and shrinking!

The attack of the first batch of Snake B attack aircraft lasted for fifteen minutes. After they left, Zhuo Fan gave the order to attack.

For a moment, the engine in the woods shook the sky, and countless tired birds returning to their nests were frightened and flew all over the sky.  The first to rush out of the woods were the hot-tempered Zhao Dengyu and the 510th Regiment, armed with a machete.  112 36 main battle tanks spread out in a standard wedge-shaped offensive formation, rushing towards Kurgason, 25 kilometers away, in company units.  On the left is the 539th Regiment of the Mechanized Infantry Division led by Zhuo Fan himself, and on the right is the 2nd Regiment of the 10th Armored Brigade of the Polish Army. The entire impact formation is 15 kilometers wide, and more than 300 land steel beasts form a huge triangular formation.

    "Enemy attack!"

When the billowing dust comes fromAfter appearing, a scream of terror suddenly came from the tank regiment which was being ordered to shrink.

The cry also completely pierced the tranquility of Kurgason (To be continued)
