Text Foreign objects and monsters in Chinese legends

Previous page        Return to Catalog        Next page

If we only focus on exotic animals, we will overlook many valuable things.  Looking for some theory ^^ There is a short article explaining monsters in "Sou Shen Ji", which makes sense.  As follows: "Monsters are formed by the attachment of essence to objects. When essence fills the inside of an object, the outside of the object will change. The shape, spirit and temperament of the object are the expression of the inside and outside of the object. It depends on metal, wood, and water.  , fire, and earth, which are accessible to appearance, speech, sight, hearing, and thinking. Even if birth and death increase or decrease, or change in a myriad of ways, its signs of good and evil, good or bad, can all be discussed based on the existence of essence."

The summary is quite good, and through this passage, the characteristics of Eastern mythology are also clear.  (Pay attention to the details. There is a big difference between essence and mana. Don¡¯t confuse it with Japanese fantasy. It is also very different from the so-called magic in the West.) However, this point can be discussed by everyone.

    ¡óBaize¡ó

It is said that one can know astronomy and geography from above, but trivial matters from below; through the past, one can know the future (joke).  However, he can speak human language, and he once made an illustrated guide of ghosts and gods (containing 1,520 kinds) (list of gods?) at the request of the Yellow Emperor.  Among the absolute mythical beasts, No. 1^^ is recorded in "Xuanyuan Benji", "Baopuzi (Ji Yan)" and "Rui Ying Tu".

    ¡óTransform into a snake¡ó

Water beast.  It has a human face and a jackal body, has wings, moves like a snake, and has a voice like a roar.  Bring in the flood.  (It is also possible that mm exists like in "3x3 Eyes") "The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Second Second Classic)" contains it.

    ¡óYingzhao¡ó

It has the face of a human and the body of a horse (a Centaur?), with tiger stripes, bird wings (a Pegasus with the head of a human?), and a voice like a pomegranate.  He claims to be the god who looks after the garden for the Emperor of Heaven, but he seems to be nothing more than a mythical beast at best.  It is recorded in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Three Western Classics)".

    ¡óXuanfeng¡ó

In fact, it is a giant bee with a belly as big as a pot. It stings people. It is poisonous and can kill people.  "Chu Ci (Calling Souls)" contains it.

    ¡óGreen Ox¡ó

He is mainly famous for being my mount.  But the real prototype is the thousand-year-old wood spirit (the earth spirit takes the form of a jade sheep).  It is recorded in "Songgao Ji" and "Lu Yi Zhuan".

    ¡óßÚÌú¡ó

It looks like a buffalo, but has huge horns, black fur, and feeds on iron.  The excrement is as sharp as steel (refined? purified?) and can be used as weapons.  It is recorded in "Shenyi Jing (Zhonghuang Jing)".

    ¡óɽܷ¡ó

The mountain god has a human face and a monkey body, (one hand) and one foot. He can speak human language and can change. He especially likes to eat shrimps and crabs.  It is recorded in "Shenyi Jing (Xihuang Jing)", "Guoyu (Part 2 of Luyu)" and "Vuyiji".

    ¡óFire Rat¡ó

Also known as the Fire Beast.  It lives in a volcano (not a volcano as it is commonly referred to now, but a burning forest). It weighs a hundred pounds (it must be very large). Its hair is nearly one meter long and as thin as silk. It will die when it comes to water.  Its hair can be used to make "fire cloth" (if it is dirty, it can be cleaned by burning it with fire).  It is recorded in "Shenyi Jing (Nanhuang Jing)" and "Ten Continents".

    ¡óShang Yang¡ó

A bird with one foot brings heavy rain.  (It is estimated that it can only predict the weather) "Shuo Yuan (Distinguishing Things)" contains it.

¡óFolk bird (this is one word)¡ó

The mouth is red and the body is green.  Can resist fire.  It is recorded in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Western Mountain Classic)".

    ¡óQinyuan¡ó

Bird, shaped like a bee, about the same size as a mandarin duck (maybe a giant bee).  The stinging beasts die, the stinging trees wither.  (Xuanfeng upgraded version?) "The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Three Western Classics)" contains it.

    ¡óHooked snake¡ó

Snake, more than twenty meters long, with a forked tail.  When hunting, it uses its tail to hook animals on the shore and eat them.  It is recorded in "Shui Jing Zhu (Ruo Shui)".

    ¡óChaos¡ó

It has long hair and four legs, like a dog, with a belly but no internal organs.  Resist good people and rely on evil people.  (Absolute evil spirits are also) (There is also a theory of the Chaos God, which will be explained separately and will not be included here) "Shen Yi Jing (Western Wilderness Classic)" contains it.

    ¡óYes man¡ó

Lives in the human belly.  Every time the host makes a sound, there will be a small sound in the belly, which will get louder and louder.  It can be cured with thunder pills.  (Ventriloquism?) "Xu Mo Ke wields rhinoceros", "?It is recorded in "Tang Jiahua".

    ¡óQingji¡ó

Also known as leaving.  Ze Jing, humanoid, about ten centimeters tall.  A man in yellow clothes and a yellow hat rides a yellow car and travels thousands of miles every day.  Calling its name can make it report the news (there is also a saying about catching fish).  There are also names of people (Wu Wang Liaozi, a fierce general) and pagodas in history.  "Guanzi (Waterland)" and "Taiping Preview" are included.

    ¡óBoth seal¡ó

???????? Pig-like, black, with heads both front and back.  ps: Shudang has its head left and right.  It is recorded in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Overseas Western Classic) (Dahuang Western Classic)" and "Book of Zhou (Wang Hui)".  :

    ¡óYou(Aniao)¡ó

It is similar to a small striped monkey. It often laughs and lies down when it sees people (contempt? Provoke?). It is named after its cry.  It is recorded in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Beishan Jing)".

    ¡óLili¡ó

A pig-like beast with protrusions on the back of its feet and a sound like a dog barking.  He should have the ability to manipulate the earth.  It is recorded in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Nanci Er Jing)".

    ¡óMajiao¡ó

It looks like a horse, with a white body and a black tail, a horn on its head, sharp teeth, claws on its four legs, and its pronunciation is like the sound of a drum.  Feed on tigers and leopards.  It is said that it can be used to control soldiers.  It is recorded in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Overseas Northern Classic) (Four Western Classics)", "Guanzi (Xiaowen)", and "Book of Zhou (Wang Hui)".

    ¡óSuffer ¡ó

It is several feet long, like an ox, with bright blue eyes. Its four legs are in the soil, although it is moving, it does not move away.  Only drinking wine can eliminate it.  Because it is gathered by the air of sadness, wine can forget the worries, so it can be eliminated.  It is recorded in "Sou Shen Ji".

    ¡óGhost car¡ó

Also known as the nine-headed bird.  They are red in color and look like ducks. The larger ones have wings that are about ten feet wide. They are blind during the day and at night. If there is slight darkness, they will fly by.  Falling in love sparkles people's soul.  There is also a saying that one of the nine heads was once a dog barking, often bleeding.  A house with drops of blood will bring bad luck.  (Examples of this doubt) are recorded in "Three Kingdoms Classics", "Lingbiao Luyi" and "Zhengzitong".

    ¡óNine Infants¡ó

The monsters of water and fire were killed by Yi.  (It should be able to breathe fire and spit water. It is like a hydra. Can it be compared with the hydra in the West? It is very similar. Or compared with the Yamata no Orochi in Japan?) "Huainanzi (Ben Jing Xun)" contains it.

    ¡óFei Lian¡ó

It has the body of a deer, a head like a sparrow, horns, and a snake tail with leopard characters.  Some say he is Feng Bo.  But I think it¡¯s more reasonable to be a mythical beast that controls the wind and atmosphere.  "Chu Ci (Li Sao)" contains it.

    ¡óFlying Bird¡ó

Bird, like a mouse, barefooted.  The mouth can secrete mucilage, which can be sprinkled on trees to stick to birds for food. Sometimes it can be sprayed with a sure hit.  (Australian aboriginals also used their own methods to hunt.) It is recorded in "Guangzhou Museum".

    ¡óNine-tailed snake¡ó

The giant snake has scales on its body and nine tails below the waist. It drags along and makes a sound of iron collision.  There is a small hole at the tail end, which will spray out like bullets, killing or maiming those who hit it.  (It doesn't have a strong mythological flavor, but it can be regarded as a relatively standard monster, and it is still very strong.) "Sequel to the Silence" contains it.

    ¡óXi Mouse¡ó

The giant rat lives under the ice, weighs a thousand kilograms, and has edible meat.  Fur can be used to make clothes and quilts, which are excellent for keeping out the cold.  If you use its skin to cover a drum, its sound can travel thousands of miles, and its hair can summon rats.  (What the Rat King said) It is recorded in the "Shen Yi Jing".

    ¡óAoyin¡ó

(I can¡¯t type, I¡¯m in pain): Humanoid, wearing tattered clothes, with clawed hands.  Attacks single travelers and likes to eat human brains.  The tongue is very long, and sometimes it is stretched out and coiled on the ground to rest. It can be killed by throwing it with a hot stone.  (He is quite intelligent and knows how to disguise. He may have keen senses, especially the tongue (it hurts to death?). It can be inferred that he reacts very quickly and is a fighting type.) It is recorded in "Shenyi Jing (Western Wilderness Classic)".

    ¡óRoar¡ó

Shaped like a rabbit,The tips of the ears are long, only more than a foot long.  Ligers and tigers are afraid of it, and their bodies will rot (strong acid?) when they are drowned in it.  "Yan Expo Yu Tan" contains it.

    ¡óHorizontal male fish¡ó

Born in a stone lake, this lake is always frozen.  It is seven or eight feet long, shaped like a carp and red. It is in the water during the day and turns into a human being at night.  If you pierce it, it won't die if you boil it. If you boil it with two black plums, it will die. If you eat it, you can get rid of evil diseases.  It is recorded in "Shenyi Jing (Northern Huang Jing)".

    ¡ó?Capsule¡ó

Like a child, it stretches out its hands to lead people when it sees it, but it dies as soon as the person reaches its place of residence.  (Probably not an animal, but a kind of ghost. Does it suck people's soul?) It is recorded in "Sou Shen Ji".

    ¡óFengli¡ó

Also known as the Wind-born Beast.  Like mink, green.  It cannot be burned by fire, nor can it be cut with a knife. Hitting it is like hitting a skin bag.  Hit its head thousands of times with a hammer and die, but it will be resurrected as soon as the wind enters its mouth.  You can kill it by stuffing its nose with calamus.  Its brain and chrysanthemum can be used as medicine. Taking ten kilograms of its brain and chrysanthemum can lead to a life span of 500 years.  (The reason why this beast became extinct was probably because of the ¡®500-year-old¡¯. Humans are really scary ^_^) "Baopuzi (Fairy Medicine)" contains it.

    ¡óKakugui/Kakutora¡ó

Also known as Renfa Beast.  Like a sheep, one horn, green, loyal and straight.  The one who gets offended when he sees someone fighting.  Gao Tao (name) once used it to resolve cases.  (Doubts can read people's minds, so they can tell right from wrong. Biological lie detector?) It is recorded in "The Book of Sui Yi Ji" and "Shen Yi Jing".

    ¡óLeave it to the snake¡ó

Also known as Yanwei.  It has the head of a human and the body of a snake, with two heads. It is dressed in purple and has a red crown, which is as long as the chariot shaft.  He hates the sound of thunder and stands with his head held high when he hears it.  If you see it, you can dominate the world.  It is recorded in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Hainei Jing)", and "Zhuangzi (Dasheng)" says that Duke Huan of Qi once saw it.  Note: Wen Yiduo's "Fuxi Kao" said that this is the mating statue of Fuxi and Nuwa with the head of a human and the body of a snake.  (Funny, right?)

    ¡óQiyu (Sorry, I used another word)¡ó

The largest of the beasts, it has the head of a dragon, a horse's tail, and tiger's claws. It is four hundred feet long. It is good at walking and feeds on humans.  If you meet a righteous person, you will hide it; if you meet an ungrateful person, you will eat it.  (Punish evil and promote good? However, based on this statement, it is impossible to understand its hunting method? How fast does it have to be for such a large body) "Erya (Release of Beasts)" contains it.

    ¡ó¹SãC¡ó

The strangeness of wood and stone is also said to be the essence of mountains and rivers.  It looks like a three-year-old child, with red eyes and long ears, red and black, and likes to imitate human voices to confuse people.  It is recorded in "Guoyu (Part 2 of Luyu)" and "Shuowen".  (Rat Spoon) Dog: Like a dog, can fly, eats tigers and leopards.  "Book of Zhou (Wang Hui)" contains it.

    ¡óSuddenly¡ó

The colorful snake is also said to have two heads.  When a character touches it, the head in the middle will reach the tail, the head in the middle will reach the tail, and the head and tail will come together in the middle of the waist.  (I listed it mainly because in "The Art of War", "the three armies are in full force" is this snake) "Shen Yi Jing (Western Wilderness Classic)" and "Nu Wu Zhi (Strange Stories)" contain it.

    ¡óKunpeng¡ó

There is a fish in the North Ming Dynasty, and its name is Kun. Kun is so big that I don¡¯t know how many thousands of miles it has. It turns into a bird, and its name is Peng. The back of the Peng doesn¡¯t know its thousands of miles. When it flies in anger, its wings are like hanging down.  Clouds in the sky.  "Zhuangzi"

    ¡óGhost Mother¡ó

There is a ghost mother in Xiaoyu Mountain in the South China Sea, who can give birth to ghosts of heaven and earth. She gives birth to ten ghosts in one day. She gives birth to her in the morning and feeds her in the evening.  "Shu Yi Ji"

    ¡óDivine Bird Emperor Jiang¡ó

There is a divine bird in the Tianshan Mountains. It is shaped like a yellow sac, red like red fire, with six legs and four wings. It is faceless and knows how to sing and dance. It is actually the Emperor River.  "The Classic of Mountains and Seas"

¡óThe sacred bird of Mount Heng¡ó

The bird of Mount Heng has given birth to four sons. When their wings are fully formed, they will be divided into four seas and sent away with a mournful cry.  "Art and Literature Collection"

    ¡óBig crab in the sea¡ó

In the past, there was a merchant who was traveling in the middle of the sea. When he encountered the island port, the forest was very lush, so he landed his boat and rested beside the water.     ¡ó?(Super strong)¡ó

It is shaped like a horse, one to two feet long, has scales, and is covered with fire. It can fly, eat dragon brains, and is extremely ferocious.  When fighting a dragon, if you spit fire from your mouth, the dragon will be defeated.  Someone once saw a man fighting three flood dragons and two dragons alone. He fought for three days and nights, and finally died after killing one dragon and two dragons.  It is recorded in "Su Yi Ji".

    ¡óChemazhi¡ó

Famous mountains produce sacred mushrooms.  The upper-grade ones are in the shape of chariots and horses, the middle-grade ones are in the shape of humans, and the lower-grade ones are in the shape of six animals.  Some people say that they can survive by eating; some people say that they can ride on clouds and be covered with cloud energy.  It is recorded in "Taiping Yulan" and "Nuwuzhi (Products)".

    ¡óShadow Wood¡ó

A plant.  Look at it during the day and you will see one leaf with hundreds of shadows; the flowers will shine and look like stars at night.  It takes ten thousand years to bear fruit. The fruit is as big as a melon, with green skin and black seeds. If you eat it, you will feel light.  It is recorded in Supplementary Notes.

The name of an ancient immortal.  I often collect herbs on Sophora Mountain.  It likes to eat pine nuts and has fur on its body, which is seven inches long.  It can fly in the air and catch up with galloping horses.  according toHe said that he once gave Yao pine nuts to eat, but Yao had no time.  People who took pine nuts at that time lived to be 300 years old.  (What kind of pine nuts are those? Are they licensed? But it¡¯s a good idea to use this anecdote as a snack advertisement^^ "Sou Shen Ji" contains it.

    ¡óGood Dragon¡ó

This guy is tired of the rain, so he runs away when it rains, hiding on people, in ancient trees and pillars, or in buildings and pavilions to escape the pursuit of the God of Thunder.  If they are in the wilderness and have nowhere to escape, they often get into the horns of cattle. The shepherd boy is often struck to death by thunder because of this.  "Lanting Night Talk" contains it.  This is a standard example of using myths and legends to explain natural phenomena.

    ¡óOx fish¡ó

It is shaped like a calf, with green and yellow fur. It likes to sleep and lie down. When disturbed, its sound is like that of a big cow, which can travel a mile.  If the skin is hung up, the hair will rise when the tide rises, and the hair will fall when the tide recedes.  It is recorded in "Natural History" and "Taiping Yulan".

    ¡óYunyang¡ó

There is a big talking tree in the mountain, not because of the tree, but because of the tree spirit Yunyang.  Just call it by its name and you'll be fine.  "Baopuzi (Dengshe)" contains it.

    ¡óDongmingcao¡ó

A plant.  It emits light and can be used as a torch if the branches are broken off.  Can see ghosts.  It can be taken, and the body will glow if you eat it regularly.  It is recorded in "Dong Ming Ji".

    ¡óDijiang¡ó

It is shaped like a yellow sac, red like red fire, has six legs and four wings, is chaotic and faceless, and can sing and dance.  (It¡¯s just some scattered meatballs.     ¡óAnti-malaria mirror¡ó

There is a family named Chen who has an ancient mirror passed down from his ancestors, about ** inches in diameter.  Anyone suffering from malaria who uses it to shine on himself will definitely see something vague and unrecognizable attached to his back.  As soon as this object is illuminated, it immediately disappears as if frightened, and the illness is cured.  It is speculated that this thing is a malaria ghost, and it is ashamed to see itself, so it runs away.  The world calls this a treasure.  Later, some brothers split the family and split the mirror into two. When they looked at malaria again, they no longer saw ghosts.  (What a pity for this treasured mirror.) It is recorded in Geng Ji Bian.

    ¡óYuhongcao¡ó

It should be a jade-red plant.  It is said that those who eat its fruit will be drunk for three hundred years before waking up again.  (It was recommended to be used by the Egyptian pharaohs. It is much better than mummification. Cryogenic sleep is not as good as it.) "Corpse" contains it.

    ¡óClassification of dragons¡ó

The one with scales is called Jiaolong, the one with wings is called Yinglong, the one with horns is called Qiulong, and the one without horns is called Lilong.  "Guangya" contains it.

(There are many explanations for this thing, I will choose one) Category A, born in mountain streams.  It is one or two inches long, has a crossbow-shaped mouth, and shoots the human figure with Qi. If it is hit, it will cause sores. If it is not treated in time, it will cause death.  "Natural History (Insects)" contains it.

    ¡óHow¡ó

Big tree.  It blooms every three hundred years and bears fruit every three hundred years.  The flowers are red in color and the fruit is yellow.  It is fifty feet high, with leaves one foot long and more than two feet wide.  The fruit has a core and is shaped like a date, five feet long and about the same width.  It tastes sour when cut with a gold knife, and bitter when cut with a reed knife.  If you eat it, you will have the power of an earthly immortal, and you will not be afraid of water, fire, or white blades.  (The first part feels a bit like the Queen Mother¡¯s flat peach) It is recorded in the "Shen Yi Jing (Southern Wilderness Classic)".

    ¡óBifang¡ó

Wood spirit (?) is like a bird, blue, barefooted, with one foot (some say two feet and one wing), and does not eat grains.  If you see it, there will be a false fire in the city (it is said that people often hold fire in their mouths and cause strange disasters in other people's homes).  It is the sacred bird that guards the Yellow Emperor's chariot (some say it is a monster that causes fire, commonly known as the Fire Crow).  "The Classic of Mountains and Seas", "The Classic of Divine Miracles", "Huainanzi" are all recorded.

    ¡óPeng Hou¡ó

The prefect of Jian'an in the Wu Dynasty sent someone to cut down a large camphor tree. After a few cuts, blood suddenly came out.  The tree broke, and something with a human face and a dog body (some said it had no tail) jumped out.  The eunuch said that this was Peng Hou, who killed him and cooked it, and it tasted like a dog.  (It is much worse than Qing Niu, who is also a wood spirit^^) "Sou Shen Ji" contains it.

    ¡óMore is more¡ó

It is shaped like a Western wolfdog.  It has a red mouth, red eyes and a white tail. When it appears, there will be fire in the place.  It is recorded in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Zhongshan Jing)".

    ¡óÁú…d¡ó

The name of grass.  The horse eats it and travels a thousand miles in a day.  As the old saying goes, 'A dragon cud tree turns into a dragon colt.  ¡¯ Emperor Mu tried to raise eight horses in this way.  It is said that it was transformed by the dragon's saliva.  It is recorded in "Su Yi Ji".

During the time of Shennong, the Bai people introduced medicinal animals.  When people are sick, they use the unknown language passed down by the white people to inform them.  The beast went to the wild and carried the grass back, and drank it with the grass, and the disease was cured.  It is said that Huangdi asked Fenghou to organize his information and pass it on to future generations.  (Where is Shennong?) It is recorded in "Yun Chuang Private Records".

    ¡óJi Meng¡ó

With a human body and a dragon head, it often appears in places with water, and there will be violent storms with it.  (It is very similar to the legendary Dragon King in later generations and should be its prototype) It is recorded in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Eight Middle Classics)".

    ¡óShen Nong¡ó

It is said that he is Emperor Yan.  Human body and bull head.  One of its contributions was the development of farming.  There is a sparrow with nine ears of grass in its mouth. Those who pick it up plant it on the ground, and those who eat it will grow old and not die.  He is also the ancestor of medicine.  "Sou Shen Ji" says that he used the red divine whip to whip the herbs, understand the habits of the herbs, and then use them.  "Huainanzi" said that he was born with an exquisite jade body and could see his own internal organs and detoxify them.  Legend has it that tea was used, but once he tasted the gallbladder, he was poisoned and died before he could drink the tea to detoxify.  Generally the latter is more widely spread.

    ?************************

    White tiger

In China, the white tiger is the god of war and killing.  Tiger has many magical powers such as avoiding evil, warding off disasters, praying for prosperity and punishing evil, promoting good deeds, making wealth, and getting married.  And it is one of the four spirits, and of course it is made of stars.  Among the twenty-eight constellations, there are seven in the west: Kui, Lou, Wei, Ang, Bi, Xi, and Shen.  Therefore, it is the representative of the West, and its white color is because it is the West. The West belongs to gold among the five elements, and its color is white.  So it is called White Tiger not because it is white, but because of the five elements.

    Xuanwu

Xuanwu is a spiritual creature composed of a turtle and a snake.  The original meaning of Xuanwu is Xuanming, and the ancient sounds of Wu and Ming are connected.  Wu means black; Ming means yin.  Xuan Ming originally described turtle divination: the back of a turtle is black, and turtle divination means asking the turtle to go to the underworld to ask questions. First, the answer is brought back and shown to the world in the form of a divination omen.  Therefore, the earliest basaltic is the tortoise.  Later, the meaning of Xuan Ming continued to expand.  Turtles live in rivers, lakes and seas (including sea turtles), so Xuan Ming became the water god; turtles live long, and Xuan Ming became a symbol of immortality; the original underworld was in the north, and the oracle bone divination of the Yin and Shang Dynasties meant that the divination must be northward, so Xuan Ming  Ming became the god of the north again

    Suzaku

The phoenix is ??a spiritual creature that represents happiness in China.  There are many forms of it.  Such as golden pheasants, peacocks, eagles, swans, black birds (swallows), etc It is also said that they were transformed into the Buddhist roc Garuda.  The phoenix mentioned in the Phoenix myth has the head of a chicken, the chin of a swallow, the neck of a snake, the tail of a fish, and has five-color patterns.  There are five kinds of phoenixes, divided by color: red is phoenix, green is phoenix, white is swan, and yellow and purple phoenix can also be said to be red bird or black bird.  Suzaku is one of the four spirits. Like the other three spirits, it comes from the stars and is the general name of the seven stars in the south: Well, Ghost, Willow, Star, Zhang, Yi, and Zhen.  When I think of it, it's Suzaku.  Zhu is red, like fire, and the south belongs to fire, so it is called Phoenix.  It also has the property of being reincarnated from the fire, just like the phoenix in the West, so it is also called the Fire Phoenix.

    Qinglong

In China, the status of dragon is much higher than that in India.  Because in China, the dragon is a divine creature, supreme, and a symbol of the emperor.  It is also a representative of the East. Among the five elements, it belongs to wood. Because cyan belongs to wood, there is a saying that it is a green dragon on the left and a white tiger on the right.

Among the twenty-eight constellations, the seven constellations in the east are used - Jiao, Kang, Di, Fang, Xin, Wei and Ji. The ancients imagined them to be the image of dragons. Because they are located in the east, they color the five directions according to the theory of Yin and Yang and the Five Elements.  The color of the east is green, hence the name Qinglong.  There is also a saying about dragon sex, which means that when you have sex with an ox, you will get a unicorn, and if you have sex with a pig, you will get an elephant.  There is also a saying that a dragon gave birth to nine sons, none of whom are like dragons. It goes like this: The eldest son is called Qi Niu: he loves music, so he always stands on the head of the piano.  Such as the Huqin of the Han people and the Sanxianqin of the Bai people.  The Mongolian Morin Khuur may also be a variant of the Prison Niu.  The second son is Jai Pi: he loves to kill, so he is often placed on weapons to intimidate the enemy.  At the same time, it is also used in ceremonies to appear more majestic.  The third son is Chaofeng: it is a beast-shaped dragon that looks a bit like a dog. It is good at watching, so it is often placed in the corner of the palace.  It is said that it can intimidate demons and eliminate disasters.  The fourth son is Pulao: if he likes to roar, people willIt is installed on the bell, mostly with the image of Pulao.  It is said that it lives on the beach, but is very afraid of whales. Once a whale attacks, it will scream in fear.  Therefore, people shaped the wooden pestle into the shape of a whale to make the copper bell extra loud.  The fifth child is Suanni: shaped like a lion.  It is a foreign product that was introduced to China with Buddhism, so its personality is a bit like that of Buddha.  It is so quiet and loves fireworks.  Therefore, it is often placed on the Buddha's throne or on the incense burner to protect Buddhism.  The sixth son is Baxia: also known as ??, he looks like a turtle.  According to legend, in ancient times, it often carried three mountains and five mountains on its back to create trouble.  Later, he was subdued by Xia Yu and made many great contributions to Xia Yu.  After the flood control was successful, Xia Yu let it carry out its achievements.  Therefore, most of China's stone monuments are carried on its back.  The seventh child is Biuan: also known as Charter, it looks like a tiger.  According to legend, it upholds justice and can distinguish right from wrong, so it is placed above and below the prison door, on both sides of the Yamen lobby, and on top of the cards that officials quietly avoid when they go on patrol to maintain the solemn atmosphere of the court.  The eighth child is negative?: Because it loves literature, it is placed on two sides of the stone tablet.  Mo Zi is Chi Kiss: also known as Ou Wei, a fish-shaped dragon.  According to legend, around the time of the Northern and Southern Dynasties, the Moga fish from India was introduced with Buddhism.  It is the object under the seat of the rain god in Buddhist scriptures and can extinguish fire.  Therefore, the chi kiss was transformed from this, so it is often placed at both ends of the roof ridge to eliminate disasters and extinguish fires.

    Taotie

"Shenyi Jing? Southwest Wilderness Jing": "There is a man in the southwest who has a hairy body and wears a pig on his head. He is greedy and vicious, hoarding money without using it, and good at robbing others of his grain.  "Man-eating Valley", according to the "Historical Records: The Chronicles of the Five Emperors" Zhengyi quoted). The strong take over the old and the weak, and they are afraid of the strong and attack singles. They are called gluttons. In "Spring and Autumn", the gluttons are the untalented sons of the Jinyun family."

"Zuo Zhuan? Wen Gong's 18th Year" says: "The Jinyun family has untalented people who are greedy for food and drink, risking bribes, invading and admiring luxury, and cannot be tired of profit; they accumulate wealth and do not know how to discipline; they do not distinguish between orphans and widows, and do not care about the poor.  The people of the world compare themselves to the three evils, and call them gluttonous." This is what the "Spring and Autumn Annals" said in the "Shenyi Jing" says.

"Lu's Spring and Autumn Annals? Xianshi" says: "The gluttonous food eaten in cycles has a head but no body. If it eats people without swallowing them, it will harm the body." Song Luo Mi's "Lu Shi? Biography of Chi You" notes: "Chi You is the god of heavenly talismans.  The type is unusual. Among the Yi utensils of the three generations, there are many statues of Chi You, which are warnings for those who are greedy and cruel. The statues are in the shape of animals, with fleshy wings." According to what he said, they are probably gluttonous.

"Zuo Zhuan" states that Taotie is "an untalented son of the Jinyun family", while the "Historical Records: Anthology of the Five Emperors" excerpts quote Jia Xuan as saying: "The Jinyun family, with the surname Jiang, is a descendant of Emperor Yan, and was an official in Jinyun during the time of the Yellow Emperor."  Chi You's surname was Jiang, and he was also a descendant of Emperor Yan ("Lu Shi Biography of Chi You"), so Chi You was probably the "untalented" Taotie of the Jinyun family.  In addition, the "roe deer (horning bird)" recorded in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas? Bei Ci Er Jing", Guo Pu annotated that it is the Taotie in "Zuo Zhuan".

Attachment: Roe deer (horning bird): "The Classic of Mountains and Seas? The Three Classics of the North": "On the mountain of Gouwu there is a beast. It has the shape of a sheep body and a human face, its eyes are under the armpits, it has tiger teeth and human claws, and its sound is like  The baby, named Roe Deer (Hao Niao), is a cannibal." Guo Pu notes: "Because of greed for things (âàÁÖ), it cannibalizes people without finishing it, but also harms their bodies, just like in Xia Ding, "Zuo Zhuan said" gluttony is  also."

    Pixiu

Professor Zhang Hemin, a giant panda expert, said in an interview with reporters a few days ago that artificial breeding of giant pandas may have begun more than 4,000 years ago.

Zhang Hemin said that in ancient books, giant pandas are called Pixiu.  "Historical Records: The Chronicles of the Five Emperors" narrates that the Yellow Emperor, the leader of China's "Five Emperors", was named "Youxiong". He not only respected bears as wild animals, but also was able to treat bears (black bears), brown bears  ), Pixiu (giant panda) and other wild animals are clearly distinguished.

This history book also traces a story: more than 4,000 years ago, the Yellow Emperor commanded a tribe that had tamed tigers, leopards, bears, crabs, Pixiu and other beasts, and defeated Chi You, the leader of another tribe, in Banquan (Zhuolu County, Hebei).  Because the Battle of Banquan was relatively famous, the historian Sima Qian of the Western Han Dynasty recorded it.

Zhang Hemin said that this shows that China¡¯s artificial domestication of giant pandas may have begun more than 4,000 years ago.

In addition to "Historical Records", China's first "Shangshu" that traces ancient deeds also narrates in the "Oath of Shepherd" that more than 3,000 years ago, King Wu of Zhou's troops were "like tigers and braves" and defeated the merchants in Muye.  Zhou Wu's army, and even later generations, still used Pixiu as a metaphor for brave soldiers who were invincible in battle.

Like a snake.  With six legs and four wings, if you see it, there will be a severe drought in the world.

It is recorded in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas".

    able

A three-legged turtle with a branched tail.  There is no poisonous disease when eating.  (Legend has it that it transformed into a ray after its death.)

It is recorded in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Zhongxi Eleven Classics)".

    Update foreign objects:

    Wind raccoon staff

This thing should have been distributed with the wind beast.  If you get what you want, the beast will be killed by pointing; if you want something, point to what you want.

It is recorded in "Lingnan Foreign Object Chronicles".

    common sense

    Huagai

When the Yellow Emperor fought with Chiyou, there would often be five-colored clouds, golden branches and jade leaves, resting on his head.  Because it resembles flowers, it is called Huagai.  (The emperors of later generations regard themselves as the sons of heaven, so)

It is recorded in "Ancient and Modern Notes".

    Update the exotic bird:

    ?(actually "Wang Cang") Lang

It seems to be mentioned in the Classic of Mountains and Seas. Besides the Phoenix, it is another divine bird. It barks like a dog, flies with fire, carries Ganoderma lucidum as a nest, and lays eggs in all directions (it refers to the shape, this bird is not afraid of cutting its buttocks when laying eggs).  .

    Updated exotic herbs:

    Snake title

Once upon a time, some people were plowing their fields and saw a wounded snake lying nearby.  Another snake held a piece of grass and covered the injured area. The injured snake recovered the next day.  Later, the grass was used to treat sores, and it was effective.  This herb has no name and is named after its deeds.

    "Yiyuan" contains it.

    Updated alien beasts:

Tianji (there are multiple solutions, choose one)

The big bird in the North Sea is thousands of miles high, with its left foot on the north side of the sea and its right foot on the south side of the sea.  Its fur is gray, its mouth is red, its feet are black, and it feeds on whales (this is a mythical whale, similar to reality, but more exaggerated).  When it vibrates its wings to fly, its sound is like thunder and wind, shaking the heaven and earth.  (There are many such giant beasts in Chinese mythology, which is also a major feature)

It is recorded in "Shenyi Jing".

    Updated alien beasts:

    Rainman

Liu Yi once saw a woman shepherding sheep and asked her.  The woman replied: This is not a sheep, but a rainmaker.  Ask again: What is a rain worker?  Answer: Thunder and the like.  (This explanation should be a strange beast with thunder attributes, similar to a sheep. However, most of the thunder gods and thunder beasts in myths have humanoid features, and the worst ones resemble monkeys. This should be an anomaly)

ps: That woman can¡¯t be a lightning mother.

"Collection of Strange Stories" contains it.

    Updated exotic herbs:

    Huaimencao

It looks like Pu, red in color, huddles in the ground during the day, and only emerges from the ground at night.  Carrying its leaves can tell the good or bad dream, and it will be effective immediately.

But there is an unknown thing: Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty missed Mrs. Li and couldn't tolerate it. Dongfang Shuo (this person was super powerful) offered this herb, and the emperor became pregnant with a son, and he dreamed of it at night.  (Like psychological detection)

It is recorded in "Dong Ming Ji".

    Update alien:

    Guiguzi

It is said that during the reign of Duke Ping of Jin Dynasty, he lived in seclusion in Guigu Valley and took this as his nickname.  There were more than a hundred disciples, but only Su Qin and Zhang Yi were good at vertical and horizontal techniques.  He lived in the human world for hundreds of years and ended up unknown.

It is also called the true immortal of ancient times.  The surname Wang was from the Xuanyuan era and lived through the Shang and Zhou dynasties.  Since he settled in Guigu on weekends to teach apprentices, he once transformed a shoe into a dog to guide Su and Zhang.

(There is also a theory that Su Qin used a pseudonym to cover up himself and wrote the book "Guiguzi")

It is recorded in "Taiping Guangji" and "Luyiji".

    Update Anonymous:

    Nourish Shenzhi

During the reign of Emperor Qin, many people died.  A bird puts grass in its mouth on the dead person's face, and he immediately comes back to life.  Qin Shihuang sent someone to show this grass to Gui Guzi, and he replied: This is the immortal grass of Zuzhou, which grows in Qiongtian. The leaves are like wild rice and do not grow in clusters. One plant can live a thousand people.

    Update alien:

    Dongfang Shuo

Ping Pingyuan has been teaching in Wuzhong for decades.  When Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty wrote a letter, he was worshiped as Lang.  Some people at that time thought he was a saint, while others thought he was just a clown.  His words may be deep or shallow, and no one can fathom their true meaning.  Later he abandoned his official position and left.  "Hanshu" calls him the 'Funny Hero' (inspiring!).  Judging from the legend, this person is knowledgeable and talented, and can interact with the immortal class, but his own abilities are not very obvious.  (Absolutely wise and foolish).

    "Biography of Immortals" contains it.

    Update Anonymous:

When Dongfang Shuo was not dead, he once said to the people who lived with him: No one in the world knows my true face, except the great prince.  After his death, Emperor Wu heard this rumor and summoned the prince to ask about it.  The great prince said: I don't know.  Emperor asked: What are you good at?  Reply: Stargazing.  The emperor asked again: Are the star positions normal?  Reply: Everything else is normal, only Sui Xing has just reappeared after missing for eighteen years.  Emperor Wu looked up to the sky and sighed: Shuo has been by my side for eighteen years, but I didn't know that he was the spirit of the year star.  Miserably unhappy.  (Note: The year star is Jupiter)

    Update Ancient God:

    Xingtian

It turned out that he was a minister of Emperor Yan, and he seemed to be a civil servant (at least not one who led troops).  Emperor Yan was defeated by Emperor Huang. Xingtian refused to accept and continued to fight.  The emperor cut off his head and buried it under Changyang Mountain (the birthplace of Emperor Yan).  The headless Xing Tian used his own breasts as his eyes, his navel as his mouth, a shield in his left hand, and an ax in his right hand, swinging them endlessly, and continued fighting.  (Warrior!)

It is recorded in "The Classic of Mountains and Seas (Western Classic of Seas and Seas)".

    common sense:
