"Your Excellency, Minister of Foreign Affairs, I tell you frankly that this trip to Europe has not achieved satisfactory results. However, I am full of confidence in this trip to China. I believe that China will be able to  Chile provides a suitable battleship! Do you think so?" Lieutenant Colonel Eduardo said.

"Of course, Your Excellency, Special Envoy. There is no doubt that the technology of the Chinese Navy has become the best in the world! Moreover, we are also very happy to provide advanced battleships to your country! I believe that our battleships will definitely make you  The country is satisfied!" Wu Tingfang said.  The arms trade has always been a very important source of income for major countries.  It's just that China's rise has been too short. Although it has become the world's top power, the international arms market is still monopolized by Western powers.  At most, China can only sell some light weapons to North Korea, Japan and Middle Eastern countries.  If the market can be opened by selling battleships to Chile, this will undoubtedly be very beneficial to China!  China also very much hopes to facilitate this transaction!

"Your Excellency, Minister of Foreign Affairs, thank you for your support! So, when can I meet with your country's naval officials?" Eduardo said excitedly.  Obviously, he was very satisfied with China's enthusiastic attitude.

"Your Excellency, Special Envoy, tomorrow, officials from the Navy Ministry will meet with you!" Wu Tingfang said.

¡°I am very much looking forward to this meeting, Your Excellency, Minister of Foreign Affairs!¡± Eduardo said.

China¡¯s sale of battleships to Chile is a win-win situation for both China and Chile.  The performance of Chinese naval battleships is world-famous.  Obtain new battleships from China.  It will undoubtedly greatly improve the strength of the Chilean Navy and continue to widen the direct gap with its opponents.  This is very important for Chile, which is full of enemies!  And China can also make huge profits by selling battleships.  Battleships are inherently expensive weapons, and not many countries can afford them and maintain them.  at the same time.  China can also take the opportunity to expand its influence in Chile.  Chile is an important exporter of saltpeter and copper ore in the world.  Both of these resources are extremely important strategic resources.  China also needs to import a large amount of saltpeter from Chile every year.  The Chinese government is also very happy to see that the direct relationship between China and Chile can be strengthened!

"Your Majesty, I have met with the Chilean envoy, and we had a very pleasant conversation. The Chilean envoy has formally expressed his willingness to order warships from our country. I have already communicated with Mr. Zhang from the Navy Department. Tomorrow the Navy Department  Officials will be responsible for receiving them!" Foreign Minister Wu Tingfang reported to Wang Yuze.

"Although Chile is a small country in South America, it is also a powerful country in South America. And it is in serious conflict with its two neighbors, the powerful Brazil and Argentina. Because the territory is too narrow, it is easy to be cut off by the enemy. Therefore,  Maintaining a strong navy is very important for Chile. Now, both the British and the Germans have gone to full capacity to build warships for their own navies. Where is the extra energy to build warships for Chile? As for Chile  France and the United States not only have inadequate technology, but also charge very high prices. Therefore, it is inevitable that the Chileans will buy warships from us!" Wang Yuze said.  In his previous life, he didn't pay much attention to South American countries.  This time Chile wants to order battleships from China.  He specifically asked the Military Intelligence Bureau for some information about South America, and he was really shocked when he saw the results!

South America in the second half of the 19th century was really not peaceful, with wars breaking out one after another.  The more famous ones include the Paraguay War and the South American Pacific War.  The Paraguay War was a war fought from 1864 to 1870 by the Paraguayan military strongman Francisco Lopez, a small landlocked country, Paraguay, against the three alliances of Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay. It was by far the largest war in the entire Americas, and a possible  It is the most brutal war in human history.  Before the war broke out, Paraguay had a population of more than 1.3 million and 6,000 regular troops. But after the war, there were only 190,000 women and 30,000 men left in Paraguay, and the rest were all killed in the war!  The brutality of this war is evident!  Except for Uruguay, each of the three countries that were enemies of Paraguay at that time was more powerful than Paraguay, especially Brazil, which was more than ten times more powerful than Paraguay.  The leader of Paraguay at the time dared to fight these three countries at the same time. I really don¡¯t know whether to admire his courage or feel speechless at his madness!

The South American Pacific War, also known as the Saltpeter War and the Guano War, was a war between Chile, Bolivia, and Peru from 1879 to 1883 over the production of saltpeter and guano in the Atacama Desert along the South Pacific coast.  At the beginning of the war, Chile quickly blockaded the coasts of Peru and Bolivia with a navy twice the size of the Peruvian-Bolivia combined fleet.

In May 1879, Chilean Navy Commander Williams left the battleship "Esmeleda" to blockade the Peruvian fortress of Iquique, but was attacked by the Peruvian Navy and the "Esmeleda" was sunk.  On October 8 of the same year, the Chilean fleet encountered the Peruvian fleet during a routine cruise, and the two sides launched the first ironclad decisive battle in South American history.  The Chilean Navy destroyed the Peruvian main ironclad "Juasca".  In November 1879, 7,000 Chilean soldiers, escorted by 6 warships, landed near the Iquique Fortress. The Peruvian and Bolivian coalition forces put up a desperate resistance. However, the Bolivian Army was poorly equipped at that time, and the troops were full of sandals and various clothing.  The Indians in uniform did not have rifles and other firearms, but only primitive bows and arrows and crossbows. This also made the "South American Pacific" the last war in the world to use bows and crossbows.  The Chilean army won and quickly occupied the entire Peruvian province of Tarapaca.

In early 1880, the Chilean army landed at the ports of Ilo and Pacocha in Peru, occupied Moquegua, passed through the desert, and defeated the Bolivian-Persian coalition forces in the two battles of Tacna and Arica.  At this point, Bolivia lost all of its Pacific coastal territory, and the Peruvian navy was completely wiped out.  In June 1880, representatives of the three countries held negotiations, but Peru rejected the peace conditions proposed by Chile and only agreed to a temporary truce.  For humanitarian reasons, Chile allowed Peru to use transport ships to transport captured Peruvian wounded soldiers. However, the number of wounded soldiers exceeded the transport ship's loading capacity. Chile lent the warship "Roa" to Peru to transport the wounded.  On July 3, the "Roa" completed its mission and was towing a barge loaded with fruits provided by Peru back when the barge suddenly exploded, injuring the "Roa".  The Chilean government believed that this was a conspiracy set by Peru and decided to take severe retaliatory measures - capturing Lima.  In January 1881, 260,000 Chilean troops launched a general attack on the city of Lima. The Peruvian defenders only resisted for two days before fleeing.

On October 20, 1883, Peru and Chile signed a treaty in Ancon City, north of Lima, ending the South American Pacific War.  According to the Treaty of Ancon, Peru ceded the province of Tarapac¨¢ to Chile and gave the regions of Tacna and Arica to Chilean jurisdiction for 10 years.  Bolivia signed the Valparaiso Agreement with Chile in 1884.  Bolivia lost all its territory between the Andes and the Pacific coast, becoming a landlocked country with no outlet to the sea.

And now the relationship between Chile and the South American powers Brazil and Argentina is very tense, and the possibility of a war has not been ruled out.  Now, the naval competition among the three South American countries has been started by Chile.  It is foreseeable that Brazil and Argentina will definitely follow suit immediately.  This will undoubtedly increase tensions in South America.  Of course, in Wang Yuze's memory, there was no war between Chile, Brazil, and Argentina.  The naval arms race among the three countries finally came to an end due to economic weakness.  Of course, in this life, maybe the outcome will not be like this, and China may be able to intervene.  However, this depends on how much benefit China can gain from it.

"Master Wu, find a way to leak out that Chile is planning to order battleships from my country. I want to add fuel to the chaotic situation in South America!" Wang Yuze said with a smile.

"Does your Majesty mean to take the opportunity to sell battleships to Argentina and Brazil?" Wu Tingfang said.

"No, this is just one aspect! We can get a lot of benefits from Brazil and Argentina, but it is not the most important. Do you think, if we support Chile and defeat Brazil and Argentina, will it cultivate a new generation for us in South America?  A powerful ally. Of course, you must be prepared to avoid a white-eyed wolf!" Wang Yuze said.  He doesn't want to be like China in later generations, raising white-eyed wolves like North Korea and Vietnam!

"Your Majesty, this is feasible. However, with Chile's national strength, it may be difficult to defeat Argentina and Brazil! It may be possible to defeat Argentina, but the strength gap between them is too big to defeat Brazil. Brazil is the most powerful country in South America.  The country's population is more than six times that of Chile. At the same time, Brazil has a very good relationship with Britain and France. It will be very difficult for Chile to defeat Brazil, even with our support!" Wu Tingfang said.

"Let's let the General Staff plan carefully. If feasible, we can contact Chile. With our current national strength, if we are determined to support Chile, Brazil will not be able to confront Chile. Chile's saltpeter and  Copper resources are very important to the empire. If a pro-imperial power can emerge in South America, it will be very helpful to the empire's global interests!" Wang Yuze said.  If the Chilean army really cannot defeat Brazil, China can even organize retired soldiers to join the war as mercenaries. In this case, it will be difficult for Chile not to win the war!
