    Rabbit burns himself

During the time when the Buddha lived in the world, there was a son of an elder from Sravasti who followed the Buddha and became a monk.  This bhikkhu usually only liked to stay close to the village and interact with lay family members. He did not like reading scriptures and could not adapt to the life in the Sangha, which made the bhikkhus in the same Sangha feel very sorry for him.

So the Buddha asked the bhikkhu to leave the Sangha and the village, and go to Alanruo to practice alone.  Because he had cut off all ties of attachment, and after a period of hard work, the bhikkhu quickly attained the fruit of Arahantship, possessing six kinds of supernatural powers.  The bhikkhus who were in the same sangha were very surprised. Why did a bhikkhu who originally loved being close to the village achieve the fruit of Arahantship so quickly when he went to a quiet place to practice alone? In order to dispel the doubts of the public, the Buddha  Compassionately enlighten this bhikkhu about the causes and conditions of his past lives.

The Buddha told everyone that this monk was not only able to practice diligently at Alanya alone in this life, but had actually practiced this way in his past life.  A long time ago, there was an immortal who was diligently practicing Taoism alone in the mountains and forests. The immortal used fruits and vegetables grown in the mountains to maintain his physical body. Due to his unremitting efforts day and night, he felt a little rabbit in the mountains came to protect him.

A few years later, the mountain forest where the immortal lived encountered an unprecedented severe drought. All the trees, flowers and fruits in the mountain gradually dried up, and the food that the immortal relied on to survive began to be lacking. Therefore, the immortal had an idea,  I want to leave this place where I have worked hard for many years and go to the village to beg for food.  The rabbit, who was supporting the sage in his efforts, asked the sage not to leave, but to continue to practice in the mountain and accept his offerings.  In order to enable the immortals to live and study in the mountains, the rabbit began to take on the responsibility of providing food to the immortals. However, in the mountains facing a severe drought, it was really difficult to find fruits and vegetables that could feed the immortals.  After interrupting his practice for several years, he decided to offer his body to the immortals.  After making such a decision, the rabbit picked up a lot of firewood and returned to the place where the immortal lived. When the firewood was burning vigorously, the rabbit threw himself into the fire without hesitation and offered his body to the immortal.

When the immortal saw the rabbit throwing himself into the fire and using his body to support himself, he immediately reflected and thought: This rabbit is usually by his side to protect his practice, but today he threw himself into the fire for himself. In this way, the spirit of forgetting oneself for the Dharma will be  Just like a Bodhisattva who sacrifices himself for the sake of all sentient beings without any hesitation or complaint.  The immortal was grateful for the rabbit's sacrifice, and sadly accepted the rabbit's offering. At this time, the palace of Emperor Shaktihuan was shaken. The emperor observed with his eyes and found that it was the rabbit's righteous act of sacrificing his life to protect the Dharma, which shook the world.  The Emperor of Heaven was deeply moved by the fearless spirit of the rabbit, and sent down rain to relieve the long-lasting drought.  The drought was lifted, and the flowers, plants, and trees in the mountains began to grow slowly. The immortals had fruits and vegetables to sustain themselves, so they continued to stay in the mountains and practice Taoism. After such diligent practice, the immortals soon attained the five  Supernatural powers.

The Buddha told the bhikkhus that the bhikkhu who achieved Arahantship was the sage at that time; and the rabbit that offered his life to the sage was my previous life.  Because of this karma in the past, today I can also make this bhikkhu stay away from his loved ones, go to Alan Ruo and work diligently alone, achieve the fruit of Arahant, and gain freedom and freedom.

    Cut the rope

A young man went from home to a Zen monastery. He saw something interesting on the way, and he wanted to use it to test the old Zen masters in the Zen monastery.  When he came to the Zen courtyard, he and the old Zen man were drinking tea and chatting. Suddenly, he asked: "What is going round and round? It's all because the rope is not broken." The old Zen man answered casually.

When the young man heard this answer from the old Zen master, he was stunned.  Seeing this, the old Zen master asked: "What surprises you so much?"

"No, Master, I'm surprised, how did you know?" said the young man, "On the way here today, I saw a cow with a rope through its nose and tied to a tree. The cow wanted to leave here.  A tree went to the grass to graze, but it turned around and couldn't escape. I thought that since Master didn't see it, he would definitely not be able to answer it, but I didn't know that Master got it right right away."

The old Zen man smiled and said: "You are asking about things, and I am answering about principles. What you are asking about is that the cow is tied by a rope and cannot be liberated. What I am answering is that the mind is entangled in worldly affairs and cannot be detached. One reason can understand all things."  !¡±

A kite, no matter how hard it flies, cannot fly thousands of miles into the sky because it is held by a rope; a strong horse, no matter how fierce it is, can still be saddled and whipped because it is held by a rope.Hold the rope.  So, what is often holding us back in our lives? A stamp often makes us sit and think; a professional title often makes us toss and turn; a win or loss often makes us think hard; a gain or loss often makes us heartbroken.  A relationship often makes us sad; a piece of leftovers often makes us frown.

Once upon a time, there was a big country in India called Chasila Kingdom, and its king was called Deva King.  King Deva had ten princes, each of whom ruled a small country.  The country led by Prince Shanju is the smallest, but its national power is stable and its people live a prosperous life.  There was an evil king named Luo Muhou in a neighboring country. He was very jealous of the wealthy people who lived in the country, so he sent troops to invade.  Although King Shanju tried his best to resist, he was outnumbered and lost his territory.  He had no choice but to flee to his father's kingdom of Dechasila.

At that time, King Shanju had a boy named Shansheng who was only seven years old and very cute.  King Shanzhu and his wife held their son in their arms and fled outside the country amidst the chaos of war.  It takes seven days to get from my own country to my father's kingdom, separated by uninhabited wilderness.  They carried seven days' worth of dry food and set off on their escape.  Unexpectedly, he lost his way on the way and still did not reach his father's kingdom after seven days.  The food is gone. If this continues, the family of three will starve to death.

"We can't let three people die on the road. We have to sacrifice one person to let the other two people live." King Shanzhu thought secretly in his heart. When he saw his wife holding his son's hand and walking in front, King Shanzhu was about to draw a knife from behind.  Cut her.  At this moment, Shangsheng hurriedly stopped his father and said: "You must not kill your mother. How can there be a child in the world who eats his mother's flesh to maintain his life? Father, please kill me! You should use my meat as your food."  That's right." After Shan Sheng finished speaking, he hugged his mother tightly and wouldn't let go.

King Shanzhu put away his sword and burst into tears.  Sujata then said to his father: "Please cut off my flesh to use as food! But if I die, the flesh will rot. So don't kill me, just cut off the flesh piece by piece and eat it to save your life."  "But parents can't bear to do anything.  Seeing this, Shangsheng drew his knife and cut off the flesh from his body, kneeling down and presented it to his parents.  King Shanzhu and his wife were frightened and lamented for a long time, and finally they had no choice but to fulfill their beloved son's wish and eat his flesh.  For several days, Shanzhu Wang and his wife struggled on the journey of sadness and hunger.  There are only a few pieces of flesh left between the bones of Shansheng boy's body.  The parents finally took off the pieces of meat and used them as food. Then they left their beloved son's bones in the wilderness with tears in their eyes and hurried away.

When his parents passed away, Prince Sujata prayed in his heart: "My parents! I hope you can return home safely. I also hope that with the merit of my self-sacrifice, I can become enlightened and become a Buddha in the future, and help all sentient beings."

As soon as he thought of this, the three thousand worlds were shaken in six ways. The gods in the sky were filled with admiration and shed tears like rain.  At this time, in order to test the heart of the boy Susheng, King Sakyamuni turned into a wolf and came to eat him.  Susheng said without fear: "Although I only have one bone left, I am still willing to give it to hungry wolves to satisfy their hunger." Emperor Sakyamuni immediately disappeared from the wolf form, showed his true face, and praised: "Cut off your own flesh to support your parents."  It is a rare act of righteousness to save your life. If you have any wishes, you might as well tell me the truth."

Susheng said: "I have no other wishes, I only hope to become enlightened and become a Buddha."

Emperor Shitian asked again, "Your body has no flesh and only bones. At this point, do you hate your parents?"

Susheng said: "I don't have any hatred at all. If I can enlighten and become a Buddha, I can return to my true colors."

As soon as the boy Shansheng finished speaking, his flesh and skin suddenly grew, and he soon returned to his original cute figure.

The rich man and the turtle

A long time ago, there was a very rich man. Although he had a lot of money, he was kind-hearted and kind-hearted.

One day, he went to the market to buy things and saw someone selling an injured turtle.  Seeing the pitiful appearance of the turtle and thinking that it might be bought, killed and eaten, he couldn't bear it, so he walked over and asked, "How much does this turtle cost you?"

The seller knew that this man had a lot of money and a compassionate heart. In order to accumulate charity and free lives, he would not care how much money he paid. Of course he would not give up this excellent opportunity to make money, so he said: "One million dollars! If you want to buy it,  , that¡¯s all, I won¡¯t sell it for a penny less; if you don¡¯t want to buy it, that¡¯s fine, I¡¯m just about to have it for dinner!¡±

When the rich man heard this, he immediately paid him one million and took the turtle home. He gently put the turtle into the water, washed it carefully, found some herbs, applied it to the wound and then put it on the wound.  Put it in a nearby river and watch it swim away slowly.

In the middle of the night, the rich man heard a gentle "chacha" sound from the door, and felt very strange.  When he opened the door, he saw that it was the turtle he had let go during the day.

When Turtle saw him, before he could ask, he immediately said in human terms: "Benefactor! If I hadn't met you today, my life would have been in danger! I have received such great favor from you, but I justYou are an ordinary creature in the water. I have nothing to repay you with. I am really ashamed.  I have lived in the water all year round and understand the changes in the water to some extent. Now I want to tell you that the big flood is coming soon. Please prepare your boat and pack your things quickly, otherwise your life will be in danger.  "(To be continued.)
