Chapter 394: Reorganizing the Shaanxi Army

After the Shaanxi mutiny subsided, Tang Qiuli spent more than a month visiting all the units of the Northeast Army and the 17th Route Army. Everywhere he went, he had to discuss the situation face to face with the top commander of the unit.  Talk and understand their psychological dynamics.

In addition to understanding the troops, weapons and equipment, the main purpose is to understand the discipline, combat effectiveness, morale of the soldiers, etc., and also use the special skills of ** political cadres to go down to the grassroots and have face-to-face communication with the soldiers.

He traveled simply, bringing only Mei Ting, Shan Hu and more than 20 soldiers of the special guard. He was determined not to be accompanied by senior officers. He went deep into the grassroots company and ate and lived with ordinary soldiers for a few days.

At the beginning, the soldiers kept a distance from this high official, but Tang Qiuli didn't care. After getting along with him for a few days, the soldiers regarded General Tang as someone who could confide in him and made him understand the situation.  A lot of first-hand information.

Tang Qiu also had a good understanding of the basic situation of the Northeast Army and the Seventeenth Route Army. Tang Qiu had to do this. How to deal with the Northeast Army and the Seventeenth Route Army has always been his most cautious matter. Tang Qiuli did not want to let  , the two troops with the glorious tradition of the Xi'an Incident, in their own hands, have become terms in history.

In that case, he would feel uneasy about his conscience and feel sorry for the two top leaders Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng. Although doing so would be very offensive to Chairman Chiang Kai-shek and some senior officials in the government. Their original intention was to have these two heads behind them.  The rebellious troops became history, and the more fragmented they were, the better.

The hard work of more than a month was not wasted, and the harvest was great. Officers and ordinary soldiers of the Northeast Army at all levels generally had a good impression of Tang Qiuli. There was a personal letter from Marshal Zhang, plus a fellow Northeastern soldier.  For this reason, the officers and soldiers of the Northeast Army unconsciously regarded Tang Qiuli as a replacement for Zhang Xueliang, becoming their new spiritual leader, de facto leader, and their backbone.

Because of the detention of Marshal Zhang, the Northeastern Army was almost falling apart, with people scattered and its cohesion declining sharply. Since Tang Qiuli took over, he has solved their urgent practical problems materially and channeled their confusion and hesitation spiritually.  mentality.

Moreover, Tang Qiuli also held political tutoring classes for officers at all levels of the Northeast Army and the Seventeenth Route Army. He personally gave lectures on the current domestic and international situation, the future tasks and historical missions of the two armies.  I gave several lectures on other topics.

This skill is very powerful. It mentally unifies the thoughts of officers at all levels and allows them to clarify their future direction. Tang Qiuli looked at the different expressions of the officers and was greatly impressed by the power of the political and ideological work of the Communist Party of China. This is called  Politics takes command.

Tang Qiuli's appearance came at the right time to fill the mental void left by Zhang Xueliang's sudden detention of the Northeast Army, who had left his hometown and suffered a reputation for non-resistance. With his unique personal charm, he became the leader of the Northeast Army at all levels.  The spiritual pillar of officers and ordinary soldiers.

From then on, these officers no longer addressed Tang Qiuli by his official title. Chairman Tang or Commander-in-Chief Tang would all call him Marshal Tang. Tang Qiuli was frightened and could not help himself. This was a title exclusive to Zhang Xueliang and his father.  How dare you.

Tang Qiuli stopped him many times, but helplessly, these officers opened their mouths and shouted naturally and with such affection. In the words of these Northeastern officers: "Screaming like this makes you look close."  , It smells like home, and besides, Marshal Tang is worthy of this title."

As a result, the name of Marshal Tang spread within the Northeastern Army, and the same was true for the Seventeenth Route Army. Compared with the Northeast Army of more than 200,000 people, the Seventeenth Route Army, which had only more than 60,000 people, appeared to be weak.  Especially after Yang Hucheng was forced to go abroad.

They were always worried about being annexed by the Central Army or foreign forces. These soldiers from Shaanxi were all locals. They did not want to be dragged into cannon fodder by other forces. Tang Qiuli treated them equally and gradually conquered the Seventeenth Army.  The hearts of the army officers and soldiers.

They also followed the call of the Northeast Army and called Tang Qiuli the Marshal Tang. Moreover, Marshal Tang was so generous that he deprived him of his salary for several months and greatly improved the living conditions and food standards of the troops.  Now, I no longer have to sleep on a cold bed or in a cold room, and eat two steamed buns a day, and the vegetable soup is so thin that I can only see the shadow of a person.

Recruiting people comes first, and this is especially true when recruiting troops. After all the preliminary preparations were made, Tang Qiuli returned to Xi'an and began to reorganize the troops stationed in Shaanxi.

After more than a month, he became noticeably darker and much thinner. Mei Ting felt so distressed that she gave him supplements every day and resolutely interrupted Tang Qiuli's nightly marital life. The reason was that for the sake of his health,  It made him depressed.

For more than a month, Mei Ting stayed by Tang Qiuli's side, treating her husbandMei Ting feels that there is something new to discover every day. Her husband is like a book that can never be finished. When you turn a page, there is brand new content.

Shanxi-Shaanxi border, on the Shaanxi side of the west bank of the Yellow River, across the river is the historic Fenglingdu. In the evening, the afterglow of the setting sun renders the sky full of sunset, reflecting the purple, gold and dark red of the Loess Plateau. The strong northwest wind in winter whistles across the sky.  Crossing the empty sandy land by the river, the yellow water was swaying and the west wind was blowing. Several cars were approaching from a distance. Behind the cars were billowing dust like earth dragons. The cars came to an abrupt stop as they approached the shore.

A group of heavily armed soldiers quickly set up a cordon on the shore. On the last two cars, seven or eight young people got off, all dressed in casual clothes. The leader had mottled black hair mixed with strands of white hair. If you are familiar with them,  People will be surprised to find that the leader is Tang Qiuli, who holds the actual power in the north.

And several other people were apparently sentenced to death. The core figures of the former young officers of the Northeast Army, Ying Detian, Miao Jianqiu, Sun Mingjiu and others, weren't they already shot?  Why did he appear here alive and accompanied by the prominent official Tang Qiuli in person?

How to deal with Ying Detian and others is something that makes Tang Qiuli even more entangled in his heart. The Xi'an Special Military Tribunal has handed over the final decision-making power to himself. Why don't he just want to keep others under the gun?

These people were not heinous people like Zhang Mutao. They made a big mistake and killed them just because they were blinded by the illusion, passionate and rational. How could Tang Qiuli tolerate it?

These people were all young and promising officers who wanted to kill the enemy and serve the country. Tang Qiuli did not sign the verdict, and the special military court did not pursue the matter. The case was shelved, and everyone tacitly understood that the deceased had already died.  Well, what's the use of killing them?

However, the Northeast Army and the others could not stay any longer, so Tang Qiuli thought of a way. Now, he sent them east across the Yellow River, via Beiping, back to their hometown in the Northeast, and with his own passion, killed one person at a time.  The ambition to serve the country against the enemy has created a new world.

Tang Qiuli gave each person a thousand yuan for travel expenses, and wrote a letter to General Yang Jingyu of the Northeast Anti-Resistance Alliance, introducing the situation of several of them in detail.

The ferry had docked at the pier. Ying Detian and others never thought that things would end like this, and the commander personally saw him off. Five or six men all knelt on one knee and clasped their fists: "Big  "Shuai, I can repay your kindness in the future." After saying that, he turned around and left resolutely. The man's tears splashed on the long yellow land.

Watching the ferry drifting away, Tang Qiuli's heart was filled with thoughts. After Ying Detian and others returned to their hometown in the Northeast, they did not defect to the Anti-Japanese Alliance. Instead, they used the travel expenses given by Tang Qiuli to pull up a team and fight bloody battles.  Between the white mountains and the black waters, they carried the banner of the Northeast Liberation Detachment of the Japanese Army.

Later, the main force of the ** Division came out to fight against the Japanese Kwantung Army. The troops of Tokuda and others were returned to the ** Division. At that time, it was already a force of nearly 10,000 people and became as famous as the Northeast Anti-Japanese Allied Forces.  The anti-Japanese armed forces are one of the most serious dangers of the Japanese Kwantung Army. The bounty on the heads of Ying Detian, Miao Jianqiu, Sun Mingjiu and others has reached as much as 100,000 yuan.

On March 2, one month after the Shaanxi Mutiny, the reorganization plan for the Northeastern Army and the 17th Route Army was issued to the two units.

After repeated changes, the strength of the Northeastern Army has been greatly reduced. Excluding those who died in battle and those who fled, there are actually more than 178,000 soldiers. Tang Qiuli streamlined the army, and all the old, weak, sick and disabled were relocated to Dingbian.  The major industrial and mining enterprises in the special economic zone receive a monthly retirement allowance of NT$10 per person. This amount of money is enough to allow them to live a normal life in Dingbian, not to mention the salary income.

Those who are healthy but older are incorporated into the reserve teaching brigade of the Dingbian Garrison Area. They are usually responsible for the security tasks of the Dingbian Special Economic Zone and are responsible for training new recruits. These people are experienced veterans. Talents cannot be wasted, and the war is tight.  At that time, the formation of the army took to the battlefield.

The newly recruited soldiers, all young and strong men with good political background, formed the Northeast Invasion Command of the **Division. Major General Liu Tiehan, the deputy commander of the **Division, served as the commander, with eight units under its jurisdiction.  Each brigade has 15,000 soldiers.

The first brigade of the Northeastern Army was led by Zhao Yi, the former commander of the 109th Division of the Northeastern Army. The second brigade of the Northeastern Army was led by Zhou Fucheng, the former commander of the Northeastern Army Division. The commander of the third brigade of the Northeastern Army was Zhou Fucheng, the former commander of the Northeastern Army Division.  Miao Zhengliu, the former commander of the 57th Army of the Northeast Army, served as the commander.

The fourth brigade of the Northeastern Army was led by Huo Shouyi, a member of the former 112th Division of the Northeastern Army. The fifth brigade of the Northeastern Army was headed by Wu Keren, the former commander of the Sixty-seventh Army of the Northeastern Army. The commander of the Northeastern Army was Wu Keren.  The sixth brigade is led by Zhang Wenqing, former commander of the 108th Division of the Northeast Army.

The seventh brigade of the Northeastern Army was led by Wan Fu, the former commander of the 53rd Northeast Army Corps. As the eighth brigade of the Northeast Army, the brigade commander was Chang Enduo, the former commander of the Northeast Army's 2nd Division.

In addition, a cavalry brigade of the Northeastern Tingjin Command of the ** Division was formed. The brigade commander was He Zhuguo, the former commander of the Second Cavalry Corps of the Northeast Army. The brigade has eight cavalry reinforcement regiments, each with 2,300 soldiers.  It includes all the cavalry units of the former Northeastern Army and is the strongest unit in the Northeastern Advance Command.
