Liu Tiehan's headquarters is located on a high ground overlooking the entire Urez River Bridge. Because it is fifteen kilometers away from the river, the specific movements of the Soviet army cannot be seen clearly. Only the white car lights can be seen.  Somewhere on the west bank of the Urez River, it illuminated half of the sky, and the faint sound of a car engine could be faintly heard.

At three o'clock in the morning on September 29th, Liu Tiehan put down his telescope and said to Li Guangjin, director of the Operations Department: "Guangjin, order all units to prepare for battle. The Soviet army should take action!"

Li Guangjin agreed and went to make a call. Suddenly, Liu Tiehan hurriedly shouted: "Wait a minute!"

Li Guangjin turned around in surprise and saw the deputy division commander concentrating on observing the direction of the Urezi River. He couldn't help but asked strangely: "Deputy division commander, what happened?"

Liu Tiehan turned around, gritted his teeth, the muscles of his cheeks bulged, and said angrily: "Something's wrong. It's itchy."  There is no sign that the Soviet army has moved!"

Everyone looked at each other, no one could figure out what happened. What Liu Tiehan was most worried about was that the Soviet commander smelled an abnormal smell. The commander who was rolling over in blood and fire on the battlefield was.  People with such intuition are like Liu Tiehan himself, who has an almost instinctive premonition of danger.

Otherwise, it is unexplainable that after the Soviet army crossed the Urez River, they stayed for thirty minutes and had no intention of continuing their march. This is abnormal. If you think the Urez River Bridge is very important, it is the assault on Kullen.  The only way to pass the bridge is to leave a regiment of troops to guard it, but there is no reason for every army to watch a bridge.

"What's more, the Soviet troops are staying on the west bank of the river, and they don't mean to guard the bridge. Besides, they are not guarding the bridge.  Now that we have the plan to attack Cullen, what's the point of staying by the Urez River? The most important thing is to be quick and quick.

Liu Tiehan suddenly became anxious and thought nervously: "Could it be that the Soviet army is waiting for the follow-up troops to arrive before moving in together?

If this is the case, it will be difficult to fight our own battle. The three brigades on the front have a huge disparity in strength and cannot withstand the advance of the four Soviet armies.  Even if the Soviet army could be blocked until the troops on the left and right flanks surrounded it, the casualties of the three brigades that blocked it would exceed two-thirds. Would the battle be worth the loss? Should we fight it?

It¡¯s 3:05 in the morning.  Colonel Li Guangjin, director of the Operations Division, put down the phone.  He said to Liu Tiehan: "Deputy Division Commander. I received a call from the brigade commanders of the forward troops. It has been five minutes past the scheduled attack time. The troops are ready for the attack. The brigade commanders request your approval to launch the attack immediately!"

After a pause, Li Guangjin suggested: "Deputy division commander. The attack time has been postponed again and again. As time goes by, I'm afraid the situation has changed. There are more than 50,000 people in three brigades ambushing the position. If you are not careful, the target will be exposed.  It is much better to attack now than to wait passively, so my opinion is to attack immediately!¡±

Liu Tiehan gritted his teeth and said viciously: "Wait! I'd rather wait than putting the leading Soviet troops in my pockets. I want to see what kind of medicine is being sold in Lao Maozi's gourd?" In desperation, Liu Tiehan  Tiehan also cursed.

No unexpected situation occurred, and the Soviet army did not notice that not far ahead, there were more than 50,000 people ambushing Dongzhi. The reason for the Soviet army's delay in leaving is simple and ridiculous.

The time for a short rest was about to come, and Commander Aslanov was about to order the troops to move forward. At this time, the Army Chief of Staff came over and handed him a telegram with an expressionless face, saying in a nonchalant manner: "  Comrade Commander Yemenchenko¡¯s deputy chief of staff asked us why the troops stopped without permission.¡±

When Commander Aslanov heard this, he was furious. His hands and feet were so angry that he cursed in his heart, "Damn it! The villain who is snitching behind the scenes is a big deal. Why don't you bring it to the headquarters?"  , Who knows? Besides, I, a military commander, don¡¯t even have the authority to order the troops to rest for thirty minutes? After the front army is restored, I won¡¯t take you out of the Third Army, you son of a bitch.  Don¡¯t do it anymore!¡±

Without looking at the proud chief of staff, and without reaching out to pick up the telegram, Commander Aslanov yelled at a staff officer next to him: "What are you doing standing still? Tell a few division commanders and give them another thirty minutes."  , hurry up and refuel the tanks and trucks, repair the damaged vehicles, if you can't set off on time, don't join the Third Army, go wherever you like!"

This staff officer was also a smart man. Hearing the commander's roar, he was stunned for a moment, then immediately reacted. He stood up at attention and replied loudly: "Yes, comrade commander, I will convey your order immediately!"  After saying that, he ran away without waiting for the chief of staff to react, muttering to himself, "I'm afraid that the chief of staff will catch me and question me closely. If the secret is revealed, both the army commander and the chief of staff will be offended."??, the best thing to do is to take action!  "

Just because of a small report from the chief of staff, the Soviet Third Army stayed on the west bank of the Urez River for thirty minutes longer. Whether it was out of anger or demonstration, it still did not place Lieutenant General Yemenchenko as its commander.  It doesn¡¯t matter in the eyes, that¡¯s what Commander Aslanov did anyway, do whatever you want, why don¡¯t you tell the truth again if you have the ability?

Ignoring the chief of staff who was frozen in the field, Commander Aslanov turned around and left. An unexpected episode made Liu Tiehan's heart so anxious that he almost didn't take action in advance!

At about 3:40 in the morning, the Soviet Third Army, which had stayed on the west bank of the Urez River for more than an hour, finally moved. The motors of cars and artillery carts roared, and the tracks of tanks "crowned".  The car lights cut through the night sky, and they headed towards the preset ambush position in the east direction in a daze.

"Thank God! It finally moved!" Liu Tiehan threw away the telescope, sat down on the shell box, and said with a long sigh of relief.

Colonel Li Guangjin, director of the Operations Division, immediately picked up the phone without waiting for Liu Tiehan's instructions, "Are the units? The Soviet army has begun to move. The deputy division commander ordered to prepare for battle!"

Putting down the phone, Li Guangjin asked: "Deputy division commander, how could you conclude that the Soviet army has not discovered our position and will continue to advance? I am really nervous!"

Liu Tiehan smiled bitterly and said with a guilty conscience: "What judgment? I am betting that we will not be discovered by the Soviet army! The commander of the Soviet army on this road believes that our main force is under the command of the division commander, and the siege  The troops of the Transcaucasus Military District do not have our troops on this route. Fortunately, the bet was right!¡±

At about four o'clock in the morning on September 29, the leading troops of the Third Army of the Soviet Far East Front approached the position of the East Point troops. The phones of the forward troops were always reporting the distance of the Soviet troops.

Li Guangjin took the phone and said to Liu Tiehan: "Deputy division commander, the forward troops report that the Soviet army has entered the infantry shooting range!"

Liu Tiehan suddenly clenched his fist and shouted: "Hit!"

In front of the leading Soviet troops, countless firelights suddenly flashed, like lightning suddenly striking out in the night sky. Groups of artillery shells, trailing dark red tail flames, swept across the night sky above the leading Soviet troops, heading towards  It flew behind, and then, a muffled sound like heavy thunder rolled in. The two artillery brigades pointing east and hundreds of large-caliber howitzers began to bombard the Soviet army.

"Boom! Boom! Boom!", groups of artillery shells fell from the sky and plunged into the Soviet army's marching column. Loud noises, firelight, smoke, soil, gravel, shrapnel, limbs, flesh and blood, broken guns, burning  The cars turned the night into a terrifying hell.

The Soviet troops at the rear were hit by artillery shells, but the Soviet troops in front were hit by countless bullets. It was like an electric current was suddenly connected. Sparks suddenly burst out in the dark wilderness, and the sparks were dense.  They were connected together and stretched for dozens of kilometers. Bullets as dense as raindrops pierced the night sky. Like a wall, they slammed into the Soviet marching column. It was thousands of light and heavy machine guns, firing metal volleys.  jet.

The first wave of artillery shells was a powerful shot, which almost covered the rearguard of the Third Army. It stunned the Soviet army and knocked people off their feet. The first wave of bullets beat the Soviet advance guard to pieces.

When the shells were still roaring in the sky, the battle-hardened Commander Aslanov jumped out of the moving car with unprecedented agility, and lay down with standard movements.  In the middle of the marching column, fortunately, the first wave of shelling from the East Point artillery did not fall on him.

Lying on the cold and wet ground, Commander Aslanov turned around and saw his rearguard, which had been shrouded in flames and smoke from exploding shells. "They were ambushed by the Independent Division!"  This was his first reaction, but the strange thing was, why did the artillery shells fall in the rear instead of shelling the troops in front?

A communications soldier carrying a radio on his back ran to Commander Aslanov like a somersault and said breathlessly: "Report to the commander, the vanguard reported that they were blocked by the infantry weapons of the independent division!"

Commander Aslanov, who is experienced in the battlefield, quickly realized that the troops of the Independent Division had already ambushed in front. It was ridiculous. The high command thought that they were attacking Kulun without anyone noticing. Judging from the density of gunfire,  , it is definitely not a small independent division unit, but there are so many large-caliber howitzers, which turned the bank of the Urez River into a sea of ????fire. The whereabouts of their own troops have long been grasped by the Chinese.

No wonder there was no resistance of any kind along the way. It turned out that the cunning Chinese were waiting for me here. A burst of fear came over me, looking at the battlefield with flames and thunderous explosions, which seemed to be swallowing up the ground.  All living creatures.

? ?After the initial panic, Commander Aslanov calmed down and ordered: "Convey the orders from the military headquarters to all divisions, spread out on the spot, and immediately fight back. The vanguard tank brigade will cover the infantry to assault the enemy positions! Open!  gap!"
