    July 14, 1918 23:25 Moscow Kremlin

But it turned out to be a false alarm in the end. Kremlin Guard Captain Matveyev Yenisevich Bodrey was an old Bolshevik member from the working class, and his loyalty to the Soviet and the Bolshevik Party Central Committee was unquestionable.  .

The Kremlin Guard was the first internal security force of the Bolshevik Party, and its personnel were subject to extremely strict scrutiny. Matveev patted his chest and assured Ulyanov that he was usually just a fly in the large conference room of the Central Committee of the Soviet Union.  You can't fly in, let alone fly out.

"Please rest assured, Comrade Chairman, the young men in the Guard are all revolutionary fighters from the working class. They will never mix with hostile elements with evil intentions. I am in charge of the Guard personally and report directly to Comrade Sverdlov. Soldiers  You don¡¯t have to worry about your loyalty and reliability!¡±

Guard captain Matveyev stood in front of a group of Central Committee members with his chest puffed out, his eyes firm and full of confidence.

"Vladimir Ilyich, fellow Central Committee members, Matveyev and his men are absolutely loyal Bolshevik fighters and will never collude with outsiders to harm our Party and the Central Committee. I have a lot of respect for him on this point.  100% trust!" Vice Chairman of the Supreme Military Council Sverdlov now believed that even if someone leaked the news tonight, it was definitely not the work of the Kremlin Guards under his control.

"That's good, that's good! Comrade Matveyev, tell the boys to be vigilant. Sometimes the enemy does not come from the outside, but is hidden among us, right around us. The security of the Kremlin  The security work needs to be strengthened, do you understand? Okay, you can go about your business!" Ulyanov patted the guard captain on the shoulder, gave a few instructions, and waved his hand after receiving a positive answer.  Let this guy go.

"It seems like it was a false alarm. It's all a mess. Dzerzhinsky, your Cheka is not only a dictatorship force to suppress counterrevolutionaries. Don't go there. The Cheka is first and foremost an intelligence organization. We need to strengthen it."  Intelligence collection work, do you understand what I mean? The enemy not only comes from the outside, but is also hidden within us. Even yesterday¡¯s comrades will become tomorrow¡¯s traitors. There are no exceptions here because of high or low levels. Do you understand?  ?¡±

The Chairman of the Central Committee of the Soviet Union stood in front of the Cheka leader, looking up into his eyes and poking the other person's chest with his finger.

Dzerzhinsky breathed a sigh of relief and nodded hurriedly, knowing in his heart that he had escaped a disaster. If he really lost the trust of Comrade Ulyanov, he would have established a good reputation in leading Cheka in the work of eliminating counter-revolutionaries.  With his iron-blooded and ruthless image, he is likely to become the target of public criticism. Not to mention continuing to serve as a member of the Central Committee, he is likely to become a victim of the leaders to appease various factions and quell the complaints caused by the expansion of the counterrevolutionary suppression. He will definitely die without a burial place.

"Then let's do it. According to what Comrade Trotsky just said, send another telegram to Tsaritsin. If Joseph doesn't come this time, don't blame Moscow for not believing in tears. The Central Committee will convene tomorrow  Emergency meeting, remove Comrade Joseph Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili from all positions inside and outside the party! And let the Cheka be responsible for arresting and examining his problems and mistakes! "What do you think?"

Ulyanov waved his hand fiercely, venting his frustration and depression while scanning the Central Committee members in the conference room with sharp eyes.

    "agree!"

"Let's do it!" Trotsky and several other Central Committee members expressed their stance. Moscow has shown the utmost kindness to Joseph and Tsaritsin. If the other party insists on having its own way, it will not hesitate to split.

Of course, neither Ulyanov nor Trotsky really believed that Tsaritsyn and the Southern Front would really follow Joseph and raise the flag of rebellion against the Soviet Central Committee, or launch a rebellion or even defect to the Socialist Revolutionaries and Mensheviks.  In the arms of the Bolsheviks, Joseph was a careerist and a Bolshevik careerist, and would never stand in the enemy's camp.

Tsaritsyn and the Bolsheviks of the Southern Front would not all defect to the enemy's camp. In this regard, Ulyanov and Trotsky were fully confident.

Dzerzhinsky went out to send a telegram, and you could hear a pin drop in the large conference room of the Kremlin. Of course, the floor was covered with a Bosnian hand-woven shag carpet.  Dropping a piece of chalk onto the carpet would be silent. The night wind gently blew the curtains beside the floor-to-ceiling windows, and in the distance outside the window could be heard the neat footsteps of patrolling guards.

The members of the Central Committee of the Soviet Union had worked hard all day, and now they were a little exhausted. Sverdlov simply got up and walked out, and soon came back with a hot teapot filled with hot steam.  The man handed the steaming milk to Ulyanov while telling other Central Committee members:explanation,

"This is my share of milk. I was so busy that I almost forgot to drink it. I just went to heat it up to moisten Comrade Ulyanov's throat. Anyway, I drank it on the train back."

Trotsky, Kamenev and Zinoviev were silent when they heard this. Although the food supply in Moscow has been quite tight, the Central Committee members of the Soviet Union's Central Committee still had their share of milk, bread, sugar,  The ration of tea and coffee can still be guaranteed, but there are too many people who come to Ulyanov every day to ask for instructions on work, so it is true that Comrade Chairman's share of the ration is often given to the comrades below as a favor.

But Bukharin swallowed, and felt a little hungry for a while. He got up and wanted to find some food. He walked to the door and walked back. These days, let alone the landlords and rich peasants, there is no surplus food.  Even for the Central Committee members of the Soviet Central Committee, food was rationed, and there was too much food but not even a piece of bread. Unless comrades from other places came to Moscow to report on work or something, they might be able to bring some local specialties for a late-night snack or something.

At this moment, several members of the Central Committee thought that Comrade Joseph often brought some food from Tsaritsyn to the comrades in Moscow. No matter what the name was, no matter how much the quantity was, at least everyone had Joseph and  Tsaritsin's interests, but at this moment, the two sides are at war with each other to the point of becoming irreconcilable. It's really a trick of fate. Do you think this person has as much ambition as Comrade Joseph?

The surrounding enemies are still watching with eager eyes. The Soviet Red Army has just suffered another disastrous defeat in the Battle of Ufa. At this time, your selfish desires, Joseph, are so inflated and you perform such a performance in Tsaritsyn. Look how much you have brought trouble to the Soviet Central Committee and the Bolshevik Party.  What a mess!

Not long after this time, Dzerzhinsky hurriedly opened the door and came in, holding two telegram manuscripts in his hand. He looked surprised and happy on his face. After entering the door, he shouted,

"Tsaritsin called back. Comrade Joseph promised to take a special train back to Moscow with Comrade Bubnov early tomorrow morning. He will probably arrive tomorrow evening! There is also a telegram from the Ufa Allied Forces, which I haven't had time to read yet!"

Here Bukharin is at the door. With quick hands and eyes, he snatched the telegram manuscript from Dzerzhinsky's hand, walked quickly to the light, and read anxiously:

Revolutionary Military Committee of the North Caucasus Military District and Military Committee of the Former Enemies of the Southern Front

To the Central Committee and Supreme Military Council of the Soviet Union in Moscow

Handed over to Ulyanov and Trotsky,

After receiving the call, everything is clear. Early tomorrow morning, myself and Comrade Bubnov, member of the Central Committee, will take my special train and rush back to Moscow. For the sake of safety along the way, the Southern Front will send a division of troops to escort us along the way and arrive in Moscow together.  , please arrange the troop campsites and logistics support in advance.

At the same time, we will also urgently transport a batch of grain back to Moscow. We will discuss everything when we meet.

    Joseph Vissarionovich Dzhugashvili

    July 14, 1918 23:40 in Tsaritsyn

When Bukharin thought about Tsaritsyn Joseph's reply, all the Central Committee members present breathed a sigh of relief. The atmosphere in the conference room suddenly became lively, and the faces of Ulyanov and Trotsky also changed.  The best ending is to smile broadly and avoid breaking up with Tsaritsin. As long as Joseph is willing to return to Moscow, everything will be easy. Otherwise, the future of the Soviet Russian regime and the Bolshevik Party is really uncertain.

"This is easy to handle. Comrade Joseph has finally not forgotten that he is a Bolshevik. Bukharin, hurry up and take a look at what the telegram from the Ufa Allied Forces said!" Ulyanov's eyesight was much worse at night, so he did not  Go grab the telegram manuscript from Bukharin's hand and just ask Bukharin to read it out quickly.

Bukharin brought up the draft of the telegram below, glanced at it hastily, but frowned. The other Central Committee members here urged him to read it quickly. It was almost midnight, and the Central Committee members were tired after a day and night.  Even an iron man will have times when his physical strength and energy are low. Bukharin is the youngest here, but he still has a lot of energy at the moment.

Bukharin cleared his throat and said in a hoarse voice,

"Ufa Allied Forces Headquarters to the Central Committee of the Soviet Union

Ulyanov and Trotsky and all members of the Soviet Central Committee

Your last telegram has been received. Regarding the issue of prisoners of war and their families, I believe you already know our position. There is no need for both of us to waste time playing word games or face-saving projects. As long as we verify that the prisoners killed in the Battle of Ufa  If the families and friends of the captured Soviet Red Army soldiers have suffered unfair treatment from you, we will take actions we deem necessary. This is the problem!

Regarding the armistice issue between the two sides, we are happy to see that you have agreedGiven the current situation of the Soviet Red Army and Moscow, an armistice is appropriate and necessary for both parties. If the conditions we proposed are met, we can reach the following agreement on armistice and demarcation:

    1. A new Volga Federal Autonomous Government will be established on the right bank of the Volga River under the protection of the Ufa Allied Forces. This Volga Federal Autonomous Government will be bounded by the Volga River and the area controlled by the Soviet Russian regime. The starting point of the northern section of the border is between Kazan and Kazan.  The central intersection of the South Kamala River and the Volga River Channel, the southern terminus is fifty kilometers north of Saratov, and the boundary of the western section is fifty kilometers north of the Saratov-Kursk connection.

    2. The establishment of the above boundary is the basis for the armistice between the two parties. If it cannot be accepted, then this armistice agreement will be terminated.

    3. The Soviet Red Army is not allowed to station troops within fifty kilometers near the border. Of course, any behavior of Soviet soldiers crossing the border will be regarded as an act of war!

    4. The Soviet Red Army and all military forces must evacuate the area south of Saratov-Kursk, including the Tsaritsyn area, within three days. Local residents and ordinary people can continue to live where they are, and their lives and property are safe.  Like the residents on the right bank of the Volga River, they will be protected by the coalition forces and the newly established Volga Federal Autonomous Government. All Soviet Red Army, workers' pickets, and paramilitary personnel who lay down their arms will be regarded as civilians and receive the same protection.

    5. The Ufa Allied Forces and the Volga Federal Autonomous Government maintain an equally neutral attitude towards Kolchak's regime and the Soviet Russian regime. They will not intervene in the war or peace talks between the two sides, and will not openly support one side in attacking the other. In fact, we  It is recommended that both parties sit down and negotiate instead of resorting to force to resolve disputes.

    6. The Soviet Russian regime must abide by its neutrality. Before or after the war between the Allied Powers and the German-Austrian Allied Powers, any troops of the German-Austrian Allied Powers entering the area actually controlled by the Soviet Russian regime will be regarded as the Soviet Russian regime breaking its neutrality and joining the Allied Powers in the war.  , then the ceasefire and demarcation agreement previously reached by the Ufa coalition forces and the Volga Federal Autonomous Government with the Soviet Russian regime will become invalid.

Please reply before 24:00 midnight to confirm your acceptance of the above armistice and demarcation agreement, otherwise the negotiation will automatically terminate!

    God bless you!

Wang Geng, Commander-in-Chief of the Entente-Ufa Allied Forces
