    The dh4 only takes 9 minutes to reach an altitude of 10,000 feet (3048 meters), while the fastest Fokker aircraft takes more than 10 minutes. Take the single-wing, single-seat, semi-metal skinned fighter Fokkerdviii, which is the latest equipment of the German 1st Fighter Wing.  Generally speaking, the endurance time of this fighter is only one and a half hours, which is far from being compared with the coalition's dh4.

    The leader of the 3rd Squadron of the 2nd Squadron of the DH4 1st Fighter-Bomber Group is personally piloted by Second Lieutenant Han Gang of the Chinese Army. The co-pilot behind him is his gunner, observer and bombardier Second Lieutenant He Fang. Don¡¯t be surprised, the aircraft is used for  Military use gradually began after the outbreak of the European War. At this time, the air forces of various countries were affiliated with the Army Air Force or Naval Air Force of their respective countries. Even at this moment, in China, there is no independent service such as the Air Force.

    China's earliest aviation school, Nanyuan Aviation School, has become the base camp for training pilots for the aviation team. In the past year, the scale of Nanyuan Aviation School has expanded tenfold. In October 1917, the first batch of 500 pilot students who graduated from the crash training have become  The backbone of China Airlines and the Allied Air Force, the number of the second batch of crash cadets who graduated in January 1918 was 1,000. At this time, the first batch of crash cadets had more than 500 flying hours, and in April 1918  The number of the third batch of aviation school crash pilot students who graduated is as high as 1,500.

    The number of the fourth batch of crash pilot students from Nanyuan Aviation School who was about to graduate at the end of July 1918 was an astonishing 2,000. The number of ground staff and mechanics who graduated and served at the same time as these four batches of crash pilot students were more than double.  We say that training ground crew mechanics in schools is even more difficult than that of pilots. After all, tinkering with mechanical power-related operations such as engines, oil circuits, and control systems requires considerable theoretical knowledge and practical operations.

    Fortunately, the physical requirements for ground mechanics are much lower than that of pilots. In addition, the number of engineers hired by Wang Geng from the United States exceeded 1,000. Under the guidance of these guys, Nanyuan Aviation School  At least the lack of mechanic training did not slow down the rapid expansion of the aviation fleet. By August 1918, the number of active pilots in the entire participating army aviation fleet would reach 5,000, and the number of ground staff and mechanics would exceed 12,000.

    By the end of July, the fourth batch of students from the aviation school who have experienced at least 30 hours of solo flight training will graduate as many as 2,000 people. Since these students are selected from hundreds of thousands of soldiers participating in the war, they are physically qualified and have a high school education or above.  They are composed of outstanding intellectual young people, so their receptivity and foundation in aviation teaching are much better than those of ordinary soldiers.

    Of course, the two early batches of Nanyuan Aviation School graduates were basically re-recruited by Wang Geng from all over the country to serve as instructors. In addition, the Royal Air Force sent 20 senior flight instructors and 50 mechanical engineers for assistance.  The Nanyuan Aviation School, affiliated to the Aviation Department of the Chinese Participating Forces Command, became a huge crash factory for pilots.

    When Beijing Nanyuan Aviation School was established in the early years, fifty trainees each from the Army and Navy were divided into two stages of training: the ordinary group and the advanced group. The training began in the beginning of the third year of the Republic of China, and the plan was to graduate in one year. How could Wang Geng wait?  A year from now?  As early as July 1917, after Nanyuan Aviation School had just been placed under the jurisdiction of the Aviation Department under the Participating Army Headquarters, Wang Zhu and Bayusao were appointed as the chief and deputy directors of the Aviation Department, and concurrently as the chief and deputy chief engineers of the China Aircraft Manufacturing Company.  , and appointed Wang E as the principal of Nanyuan Aviation School and Yao Xijiu as the director of education.

    Jin Shizhong, Zhang Bin, Jin Xian, Zhang Nachi, Qian Naibin, Hu Wenbin, He Shilong, Chuan Jinlong and other first batch graduates of Nanyuan Aviation School were all appointed as instructors. Under the unreasonable request of Wang Geng, the hands-off boss,  Wang Zhuba Yuzao and the senior staff of Nanyuan Aviation School came up with a crash course training syllabus and teaching materials.

    The training procedures for pilot students at Nanyuan Aviation School are:

    1. First, aviation theory course education is conducted, taught by ground subject instructors. The course content includes flight principles, engine principles, aircraft structure, etc.;

    2. The flight instructor will explain the aircraft control skills and essentials, conduct cockpit practice, practice hand and foot coordination and stick and rudder coordination, and practice taxiing and simulated takeoff on the ground.

    ? 3. Once you have mastered aviation theory learning and actual ground control, and reached a certain level, you can officially take off and fly.

    4. If you pass the exams in all subjects of the aviation school and fly solo for more than 30 hours, you can graduate and join the aviation force of the participating armies. Graduates will be directly awarded the rank of second lieutenant in the army.

    If these courses are followed step by step, one year of training and learning time is minimum, but from a practical perspective, the first month is to learn theory, the second month is to learn control and practice on the ground, and the third month is to take off and land in the air.  , flying, turning, somersaulting, climbing, diving and formation flying, and finally completing the solo flight is completely achievable.

    Of course, pilots who have just graduated and entered the Air Force are trainee pilots of the Air Force. In their respective squadrons, they have to learn a lot of actual combat formations, fighting, climbing, diving, escape, reconnaissance, bombing, ground attack, and night combat.?As for the subjects and skills, even if an outstanding student graduates from Nanyuan Aviation School and enters the aviation team as a trainee after graduation, it will take at least 1 to 3 months to gradually master the above subjects and skills.

    As for experience, when they shoot down the first enemy plane or are shot down by the enemy, they will naturally form these valuable experiences. Of course, aerial combat during normal training cannot completely replace actual combat. Pulling the trigger or using a real gun with a real sword  The tension and excitement caused by being bitten by an enemy plane is far beyond training and practice.

    The coalition air force implements a front-line combat duty rotation system. The pilots of the flying squadron perform 45 days of front-line combat readiness duty and then transfer to the second-line combat readiness duty for 15 days. Each first-line squadron rotates at least one-third of the pilots every 45 days.  Newly graduated flight cadets who join the aviation force first enter the flying squadrons stationed on the second line. This system formulated by Wang Geng ensures that the outstanding pilots of each front-line flying squadron will not be killed on the front line because they have not been rotated for a long time.  Finally fell into the sky.

    After the front-line pilots have completed two 45-day combat missions, they will have a 45-day second-line rest opportunity. After completing three 45-day combat missions, they will have a 60-day second-line rest opportunity. This is a big deal.  It has reduced the battle loss rate of front-line ace pilots during wartime, and also retained a large number of backbones to be on standby on the second line and train new pilots at any time.
