    Su Shi came into contact with Buddhism at an early age and had many contacts with Zen masters throughout his life. In Huangzhou, he often interacted with Zen Master Foyin, who presided over Jinshan Temple. One day, Su Shi composed a poem: The beginning of the sky is in the middle of the sky.  Move, sit upright on a purple golden lotus and present it to the Buddha's seal.

    Su Shi himself was a gourmet, and there are many records of Su Shi's invention of gourmet food in Song Dynasty notebook novels.  When Su Shi learned about Hangzhou, in May and June of the fifth year of Yuanyou, there was heavy rain in western Zhejiang and Taihu Lake flooded.

    Su Shi directed the dredging of the West Lake and the construction of Su Di.  The people of Hangzhou thanked him.  During the Chinese New Year, everyone would carry pigs and wine to pay him New Year greetings.  Su Shi instructed his family to cut the pork into cubes, cook it until red and crispy, and then distribute it to everyone. This is the origin of Dongpo Pork.

    "Old News of Quwei" also records: Su Dongpo discussed the meal with the guest, and took a piece of paper to show the guest: Steamed Tongzhou lamb, stuffed with apricot cheese fragrant stems, recommended steamed goose, Wuxing chef cooked Songjiang carp;  When I was full, I cooked tea in the Jade Curtain Spring of Mount Lu.  Shaoyan took off his clothes and lay on his back, and asked people to recite Mr. Dongpo's "Red Cliff Front and Back Ode", which was enough to make him smile.

    The Zen master immediately criticized the word "fart" and asked the boy to take it back.  Dongpo was furious when he saw it, and immediately crossed the river to question the Zen master. The Zen master laughed: Bachelor, bachelor, aren't you unable to be blown by the eight winds? Why did you cross the river with just one fart?

    The eight winds that cannot be blown can be seen in Volume 5 of the "Buddha Earth Sutra". This sentence is also included in the poems of the poet Hanshan. The eight winds are Buddhist terms and refer to the winds in eight realms: praise, ridicule, destruction, praise, benefit, decline,  Bitterness and joy.

    In the second year of Jiayou reign of Emperor Renzong of the Song Dynasty, Su Shi won the favor of the examiner Mei Yaochen with his essay "On the Perfection of Honesty in Punishments and Rewards" and recommended it to the examiner Ouyang Xiu.

    Ouyang Xiu also appreciated it very much and wanted to promote it to the first place. However, he was afraid that the article was written by his disciple Zeng Gong. In order to avoid suspicion, he ranked it as the second one.

    It was only after the test paper was opened that it was discovered that the article was written by Su Shi.  When it came to the re-examination of the Ministry of Rites, Su Shi again ranked first with "Spring and Autumn Duiyi".

    Regarding the content in "The Theory of Honesty and Honesty in Punishments and Rewards": Gao Tao said the third of killing, Yao said the third of forgiveness. None of the examiners at that time knew the allusion. Ouyang Xiu asked Su Shi where the allusion came from.

    Su Shi's answer is in "The Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms and the Biography of Kong Rong".  Ouyang Xiu searched and still couldn't find it. Su Shi replied: Cao Cao destroyed Yuan Shao and gave his son Cao Pi to his son Yuan Xi and his wife Zhen Mi.  Kong Rongyun: That is to say, King Wu of Zhou defeated Zhou and gave Daji to the Duke of Zhou.  Cao Cao was surprised and asked where the scripture came from. Rong replied: It is natural to judge it today.  After hearing this, Ouyang Xiu suddenly realized.
